"Coach Scavone, while very knowledgeable of the game, she does have some red flags. Before I even got on campus, I heard some not so great things about her. Past players saying she talks nonsense behind players back’s and doesn’t create a great environment to grow. This should have been the moment I questioned if I wanted to remain committed to her program, but I held out and got on campus that fall. Initially, it was great and it seemed like there was lots of promise as far as team culture and building an environment for growth. However, that initial hope from the fall soon made a complete 180 as soon as we got into the spring season. I’ll put it this way, if you didn’t suck up to her, you were going to be put on the back burner. Having conversations with her after that season felt so forced, even if it was just us talking about our how our day went. Once she makes friends with certain players, it’s almost as if the blinders come on and they can do no wrong. During my time there, we had a teammate making inappropriate remarks online and to OTHER players, all of which went unchecked because she was a friend to her. Even years later, other players and I still recall her dismissal of us, even though we showed up to practice every day and committed our time to the team just like every other girl. As I mentioned in the beginning, she is a very knowledgeable coach, but if you’re not willing to suck up, you will have a hard time feeling welcomed. I know there are other alumna and other players who would completely disagree with me, and that is okay. However, no coach is perfect and unfortunately Coach Scavone did not make me (and other girls) feel welcome and truly apart of the program. "
