"Coach Gennette was an incredible coach during my time on the team for 3 years. He understands players - their goals, strengths and weaknesses. He worked with me 1:1 outside of team training to improve my forehand, etc. Even after graduation, he’s stayed close as a mentor and guide for me and my teammates. College tennis doesn’t last forever -he’s more than a coach and I’m forever grateful for that! "
"I played for Coach Gennette for three years at Cal Lu on the men’s team, and it was one of the best athletic experiences of my life. I’ve been coached by some of the top names in tennis (Robert Lansdorp, Tim Mayotte, Elliot Teltscher), and I’ve taught tennis at some of the top country clubs in the country, and Coach Gennette is up there with the best. As a coach for a college team, he cares about his players, forms incredible relationships that last for years even after graduation, and creates an extremely competitive environment where players are extremely motivated to win for themselves and the team as a whole. He makes his players train hard, but it’s all to improve the players, the results, and to build character. His drills are challenging, fun, and really get you to play with the entire team and improve. He is extremely knowledgeable, having coached some of the top juniors in the country in addition to a successful college program, and he’s extremely passionate about the game of tennis. When you hear his thoughts on a player, whether it be an up-and-coming junior or college player, or a world-class ATP/WTA tour player, his knowledge and insights are extremely valuable. He can spot out both minor and major things that a player does right or wrong, and how it might impact their game day-in and day-out or based on the player they’re about to face.
I think coach Gennette provides one of the best college atmospheres for a tennis team, and I’d highly suggest any prospective athletes consider Cal Lu for their college playing experience. He is great at recruiting players that add to the positive, competitive environment at Cal Lu, and he’s someone you’ll want to stay in contact with years down the road."
"I’m a former player of mike and he was the most unorganized person I’ve ever seen and I’m not just talking about tennis coaches. He is not a good example for kids because of his soda addiction and his littering problem. "
