"Kayla Kregel as a coach has many sought-after qualities in how she coaches. She is not only a great coach to have in your corner, but a great person to know. Of her redeeming qualities, though, there are a couple negative traits that mustn’t be ignored if one is to train under her tutelage. Kayla is excellent at informing athletes on nutrition, the importance of recovery, being a charismatic head of the team and engaging with many athletes. Kayla, however, is not amazing at the fine specifics in sprint mechanics that can elevate an athlete to the next level, and even worse, not understanding workloads and how injured athletes react to said workloads if not fully recovered. Generally speaking, one might claim that Kayla is an amazing asset for runners who specialize in the distance of 400-800 meters. For the short sprinters, while she does develop one to be in great shape, work on projection angles and frontside mechanics, she neglects the toll that her current (as of 2022) training regimen takes on sprinters. She commonly favors long, high volume workouts. While this is sometimes a good thing to do, she typically assigns the wrong workouts at the wrong times in the week and/or the season. These incorrect assignments lead to many injured athletes, which she seems to either gaslight into thinking they’re fine, or flatly insist that they can still run. Thus, the cycle continues; incorrect workout assignments (or too much volume) followed by gaslighting an injured athlete, athlete becomes injured (or more injured in this case), gaslighting ensues. This is the ultimate downside of Kayla Kregel’s coaching. Being the best she can be is a massive priority for her, and none of these things are done on purpose, for she is not a bad person. From her perspective, she may have little choice if her whole team is knocked out, but alas, it is the position she will put herself in. These things can certainly change, but as is, high-tier short sprinters (aptly put, those running below 11 seconds in the 100 meter) should not be submitting to Kayla Kregel’s coaching. Furthermore, I can genuinely say that she is an overall good coach. Simply factor in all these things before committing to a program run by her. "
