"Now that I've been out of his reign for a couple years now, I have had time to reflect on his coaching methods. He is extremely misogynistic, disrespectful, and belittling. He will publicly embarrass you in front of teammates, restaurant workers, or happy families going about their day. If he wakes up in a bad mood, it's best to believe he'll make sure you have the worst day imaginable. It's constantly walking on egg shells around him. I have loved soccer ever since I was 4 years old, after 4 years with him I want nothing to do with a soccer ball. I completely lost my love and passion for the game under his authority. He uses the fact that you are a naive female young adult to his advantage and will mentally and emotionally take advantage of that. We once lost a game while out in Texas and he refused to let the students from Texas greet their families. I felt terrible for them. Anyway, if this man is recruiting you, I hope it's not your only option. And if it is, take a fifth year or find literally anywhere else to go. Playing for him is not worth all the therapy sessions and personal transformations you're going to have to go through to forgive yourself to succumb to his madness. Good Luck."
"Literally he worst coach I’ve ever had in my entire life. He’s the reason I quit the sport I once loved. He is verbally, mentally, and emotionally abusive. He treats his players horribly, especially if you’re injured or don’t play. Basically had to beg for gear my freshman-sophomore year. Misogynistic, and overall acts like a child. Calls his players “little girl” and is extremely belittling. Won’t respond to texts, will publicly embarrass you, and will absolutely make you feel like you’re worthless. He makes soccer a toxic environment. Not to mention, there’s no assistant coach. I would never ever wish the soccer experience here on ANYONE. "
"This man is disrespectful to almost everyone he comes in contact with. He will emotionally abuse you and then text you saying that he loves you right after. HE IS PSYCHO!! PLEASE STAY AWAY!"
"Emanuel stephens is a coach who’s very passionate about the game, but sometimes is passion overpowers his relationship with his players. If you are not starter material in his eyes, you will be neglected. He has a lot of improvement to do as coach. Communication and organization is a huge one, and treating those with equal respect is a weakness. Loves to control his players. He is not my dad. "
"I used to love soccer before I played for him. He was very emotionally abusive, disrespectful to his players, bus drivers, and restaurant workers. He was so unorganized about everything and blamed it on us. If you talk to him about a personal problem he will use it against you while you are playing. He claims we are all strong women but makes us feel weak so often. He is very manipulative and everytime we try to voice an issue he turns it back on us. Overall he is not a good coach or person and should look into a new career. "
"He’s an acquired taste. Proceed with caution. Coach Stephens is very invested in his players and team as a whole, but sometimes he forgets we are still college students trying to live our lives. He produces results, it just takes time. "
