"My experience with this coach was deeply disappointing and concerning on many levels. Despite initially presenting herself well during the interview process, her demeanor drastically changed once she secured the position. She often demonstrated a lack of respect and professionalism, showing favoritism, making condescending remarks, and failing to foster a supportive team environment.
Her approach to the game revealed limited knowledge of coaching fundamentals, and rather than empowering players who showed strong understanding and passion for basketball, she appeared threatened and dismissive. Disturbingly, she made several inappropriate and degrading comments toward her Black players (i.e. , calling them angry Black women when a PWI was referring to them as apes) and did little to advocate for the team in racially charged environments at predominantly white institutions.
There were also serious issues regarding player welfare and boundaries. During a lengthy bus trip from Atlanta to Maryland, the team was not provided food and breaks were only made for restroom stops. Further, she paid little to no attention to player health and punished players for being sick or injured. Additionally, her boyfriend—whose presence raised concerns due to the smell of m***********s permitted to attend practices, and on several occasions, the coach missed practices entirely to spend time with him in Virginia.
She frequently brought personal issues into team settings, discussing private matters and failing relationships, which further blurred professional boundaries. Overall, her leadership style and behavior were not only unprofessional but also harmful to team morale and cohesion. The decision to hire her at The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (an HBCU) was a serious misstep."
"I would not recommend playing for her. She takes about inappropriate things with the players and tries to hard to be your friend instead of your coach. She treated people very unfairly and played her favorites whether they worked hard and deserved to play or not. She mad me lose my love for the game and I almost quit because of the lies and how manipulative she was. "
