"Everyone got a lot faster and the team had a lot of success, but he also reminded everyone it’s just running fast in circles and winning didn’t matter if we weren’t having fun. Every time we went to meets all the coaches on other teams were always going up talking to him, it’s like he never met someone who wasn’t his friend lol. But he talked to everybody one at a time after each race and made everyone feel important, and never made it about him bc he would constantly tell us it’s our team and to take ownership of it, he’s just one person. I’m glad he talked me out of quitting!!"

"I was lucky enough to have Sweeney as my counselor at running camp in 2019 and was bummed he stopped working any more camps after covid canceled it in 2020. That was the highlight of every year! He gave a lot of wisdom in the education classes, especially when it came to mentally handling injuries and dealing with race day stresses. The best part was when he'd talk about it not mattering how fast or slow you were, the sport is just about becoming the best version of ourselves and not to compare to others. That really stuck with me and even when I went to college and reached out for advice he always helped. I ended up inspired to get into coaching too after college and applied for a graduate assistant job, he called the head coach and helped me get it!"
