"Wanted to love the program but, it unfortunately fell short of expectations. The school itself is beautiful. The team is close-nit in the sense that they were all experiencing the same issues with her. Coach Ali has created a very toxic team environment that has girls question themselves, their skills, and love of the game. She is NOT a mental health advocate. If anything, she has contributed to many of the girl's mental anguish.
Coach Ali needs a specialized coaching staff (hitting, infield, outfield, etc) instead she runs the practices herself that have become routine. Once she identifies her starting 9 you basically will not see the field, despite her making endless promises to the girls that they will get opportunities. She plays mind games and has promised this to many over the years but has yet to show that and her confidence in the team that she had recruited.
The student/athlete life balance struggles. She does not adhere to compliance and exceeds the maximum hours and mandatory activities each week and does not listen to the trainer's recommendations. Because of this - players suffered physically, mentally, and academically. The player injuries, grades and team overall GPA support this. "
"Doesn't communicate well with players. Team lacks basic skills coaching. No batting coach on team to evaluate and work on mechanics. Poor defense coaching routine off season and during season. Never uses game video to evaluate team or opponents with players. Poor preparation. Players dislike current situation and numerous players are transferring as a result."
"Did not make an effort to support players’ mental health after the death of beloved coach whose position she was filling. Promised many players amounts of playing time that she did not follow through with (dishonest at worst, not direct at best). Year to year tends to bench upperclassmen and focuses on playing underclassmen. Expects players who have been on bench a whole game to go up to bat in the last innings of a game that the team is losing and change the momentum of the game without a heads up or warm up. Has clear favorites that benefits neither the favored players or non favored players. Does not feed players even a bare minimum of food on week long training trips and didn’t allow players to spend time or eat with family who traveled to watch games. Struggles to maintain a healthy emotional boundary with players re: her personal life. Pro: softball knowledge and experience playing in college. "
"Does not help players develop. Very little feedback, is not honest about playing time puts players down more than she lifts them up. Does not worry about players basic needs such as food. Did not take an injured player for treatment while on the road. As far as I can tell she is in over her head"
