"It is a sorrowful mark of our age that the noble craft of coaching—an art that shapes souls, strengthens resolve, and kindles the fires of potential—should be reduced to the cold, barren judgement of rating mechanisms.
These trifling systems, wrought upon scant and superficial samples, diminish the weighty and profound labor of a coach to mere figures and tallies. Such devices fail to grasp the unseen currents of a coach’s influence—the unseen hand that shapes futures, forges bonds amongst kin and kinless alike, and alters the very course of a life. To measure such transformative work by the fickle fancies of a handful, without understanding the breadth and depth of their toils, is to insult the very marrow of leadership, mentorship, and inspiration. It is a great affront to compress these luminous guides into mere numbers, as though their worth could be reckoned by digits or stars.
Yet if we must partake in such hollow judgments, I shall declare: Bobby is, in truth, one among a million—a coach whose mastery stretches beyond the sport of tennis, whose reach shall endure through the generations. There are two reasons for this, each illustrated, fittingly, with a quote from Dostoevsky's Brothers Karamazov.
I) "What is hell? I maintain that it is the suffering of being unable to love."
Bobby will never know this affliction. He is an effortless weaver of human bonds, binding together those who otherwise might never have met, through the shared thread of his influence. His legacy radiates so powerfully that those touched by it can often recognize its echo in others, even without a mutual or shared acquaintance. His life in Hamilton has been defined by this fierce and boundless respect for his neighbor, and through that love, he has lifted up all who were fortunate enough to fall within his orbit.
II) "Each of us is responsible for everything and to every human being."
Bobby’s greatness lies not in accolades or numbers, but in the depth of responsibility he has taken for those around him, guiding futures with a love and dedication that no rating system can quantify. Surely, one day, Colgate shall bestow upon him the honor due to him as a leader whose impact hath far exceeded the narrow expectations of a mere collegiate coach. Until that day, the countless lives he has shaped and the legacies he has helped to forge speak louder than any formal recognition.
"5 stars""
"Bobby is the best coach I have ever had. He’s knowledge and his positive attitude is contagious, his coaching style is unmatched. He’s a motivator and he gets the best out of his team. I am no exception."
