"Where to start on our terrible experience with this hockey program: Coming into this program our daughter was a pretty raw talent. Lots of upside, lots of potential. At the time she was confident. First year she sat a lot. Disappointing, but not completely unheard of as she some things to learn. We should have noticed the other signs though. More on that later. Brad Marshall would never give reasons as to why she or other players were sitting. When our daughter asked what she could improve on to get her more playing time he would say: "nothing much I can think of." Brad Marshall told our daughter at the end of her first year that she was on par with one or two seniors that played a lot who were leaving the program. Disappointing first year, but if she was on par with some graduating seniors - and if she worked hard and improved her game she would have an opportunity to play more next year right? Our daughter worked hard, played over the summer in the local summer league and improved her skills. She was then immediately benched in favor of first year players. Again, no reasons given when asked. If you are wondering if it was a hockey performance issue, I assure you that these first year players had a lot to learn, just like my daughter had, but he immediately passed her by and played them. One of the first-year players in particular lacked basic skating skills. I KNOW my daughter is way better than that. Again, little to no opportunity to prove herself in her second year, along with the emotional destruction of having a coach who refused to coach her; when she did look at her film with Brad Marshall he would say not-so-encouraging things like: "That was not so terrible." Brad Marshall has a practice of letting the players know if they were sitting or playing via text message. Can you say passive aggressive? Wow. Degrading and demeaning. I could go on - I hope you get the gist. If you are looking for a toxic coach and team culture look no more. Brad Marshall is your guy. If you want a passive aggressive culture complete with the players backstabbing each other due to a coach that pits them against each other Brad Marshall is your guy. If you want to go to a school that supports 19 years of this behavior by keeping Brad Marshall employed despite all of this baggage along with a ~ 38% career winning percentage then St. Catherine University is where to send your daughter."
