"Hannah came as the Men’s and Women’s team head coach my senior year at CSU.
Initially she was very cool, personable, and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know the team helping and us improve.
However, towards the middle of the season she began to shift and center her attention primarily towards the men’s team. She left the women’s team to the assistant coaches and barely worked with them during practices.
I would say that her knowledge of the sport is average at best. Hannah appeared to be an advocate for the “garbage yardage” training method. Rarely during the season do I remember swimming a practice where there was a primary focus on technique.
During the season she also used the team’s budget to hire a “team motivator / councilor”, who was not licensed as a councilor in anyway, to come to the university and speak to the team. She did this roughly four times throughout the season and it was later found out that she was also using the team budget to pay for this person’s flights and hotel stay during these times. Many teammates felt that this was a huge waste of funds that could’ve been better spent on supplies the team needed rather than a speaker with no
At the end of the season, during our conference championship, she chose the athletes that would be attending the meet based on her “gut feeling” rather than how athletes actually performed during the season or their times.
Hannah Burandt is an individual that looks out for herself and is willing to use athletes as a means of furthering her personal goals, then discard them when she deems that they are no longer any use to her.
If you are offered to have her as your coach, I recommend looking somewhere else with a coach that actually value and care for you. "
"Dangerous. Pretends to be a counsellor and advocate but will turn on an athlete in a hot second. Drives wedges between athlete and parents, shaming athletes for relationships with parents. Communicates great until the athlete is there and then blocks parents. My son was there as a 17 year old and she shamed him for calling home once in a while. Terrible fake personality. Don’t sign with this creepy cat lady. "
"Hannah preaches that she cares about the whole student, that the team is a "family." She flirts with the men's team (including athletes on opposing teams), she ignores the women's team, and she is abusive to anyone showing any signs of mental health. One of our teammates was told if she showed ANY signs of mental health at the pool, she would be kicked off the deck. She wouldn't let her compete, even though she was the fastest sprinter on the team at the time. Hannah was absolutely horrible to her. The assistant coach left because of Hannah, and he was the best thing to ever happen at CSU."
