"Coach Spencer is the type of coach that cares about you as a human and sees you as more than a player. She is kind and wants you to succeed in all areas of college, on and off the field. I had a mixed experience with her, I came into a team culture as a freshman that was kind of an Us VS coaches mentality. My senior year our entire goal was to change our team culture from the top down. This was when I felt I really got to see her in action. She was always tactically sound but I didn’t see her love for coaching really shine through completely until my senior year, and that was when I realized how much our team culture impacted her too. As soon as we turned our culture around it was like she blossomed into the best coach I could’ve hoped for. She saw how much we wanted to win for eachother and that really showed in her. She seemed so excited to come to practice and games to help us come off a season we started 0-4 at. Working as a captains class with our coaches became a normal thing, it wasn’t until my senior year that I truly understood how much she did as a coach until I helped her with it being a captain, she did so much for us behind the scenes on and off the field. My most memorable moments with her both came from my senior year, first being the speech she gave after our home win 4-2 against SNHU, there was one play during that game that was me and one of the other seniors entirely creating an offensive play when we had a 30 yard deficit on one of their defenders, winning the ball back and making something out of it, I saw her pride in how much we had grown as she teared up highlighting that play, that’s really stuck with me in how much love and pride she has in her players, we were a tiny senior class of 2, she watched us grow into strong senior players. It really stuck with me. Another moment I would highlight which would probably seem small to some but stuck with me was when we went into the semi finals against assumption she sent me a text with a clip from a year before with a simple “just a little reminder”, she wasn’t always the most outspoken but when she said things like that it made them even more impactful, that she was thinking of me and what I could do, believing in me in what we would accomplish the following day while she was at home on her own time.
