"I played for WSSU Softball and want to share a few things future recruits should be aware of. Every athlete’s experience is different, but this was mine. The team environment was challenging, and communication wasn’t always consistent. A lot of us struggled with feeling supported, and it sometimes felt difficult to speak up about concerns without worrying about how it would be received. Mental‑health strain was a real issue for several players. The overall atmosphere could be overwhelming, and many of us felt stressed or anxious throughout the season. Training and conditioning were extremely intense, and at times felt more punitive than developmental. This was hard on both physical and mental wellbeing. There were also moments where procedures felt uncomfortable or unclear. Several players ended up leaving the program, which says something about how tough the environment could be. I’m sharing this so future athletes and families can ask the right questions and make informed decisions. I hope the program improves under new leadership, because the potential is there — but the culture needs attention."
