"I believe some people may struggle with Yon simply because they’re bitter about playing time. It’s frustrating to see how easily some become degrading toward a coach rather than recognizing that difficult decisions, like determining lineups, are simply part of the job. Every coach has to make those calls, and not everyone will agree with them. But carrying that bitterness or anger long after graduating only reflects an inability to be a supportive teammate and to see the bigger picture. In my experience, Yon completely transformed me as a player in the best ways possible. I deeply appreciated his willingness to be open about his own challenges, and as someone who often struggles to do the same, I found that incredibly grounding. Sure, like any athlete, I had moments of frustration with certain decisions; however, I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything. I became a smarter, fitter, and more technical player. But more importantly, I left CMU a more empowered and confident woman. Yon has also demonstrated an exceptional commitment to growing as a coach and evolving his dynamic with the team, which is something rare and worth recognizing. That, to me, speaks volumes about his character, and it’s even rarer to find a coach, especially a male one, who uplifts female athletes in that way."

"Yon is a terrible coach. Breeds a terrible team environment. Has too many injured players from over practice and over played. Doesn’t care about his players, never checks on injured players. But maybe if you take him to dinner, house him and feed him when he travels for recruiting trips , you will be a starter. "

"He requires players to play through injury, my daughter played on broken ankle, one player a broken hip, another played with fractured wrist and several girls played with undiagnosed torn ACL. He does not care about players or academics. He is unapproachable for players and parents. My daughter and I have reported him to the AD at CMU and NCAA. "

"I played for Yon for 4 years.. he has decent knowledge of the game, but cares more about himself than the team. I do not believe he is a good person, which translates to a bad coach. He would consistently put teammates against each other to "drive competition" but it would in turn just create a poor team culture. He's extremely conceited, because he coaches at a prestigious school, but it is not worth it. I became a worse player during my tenure under him. He has his ways of wanting things done, and if you don't do them to a tee, he will punish you for them. Even if you have a slightly different style of play that is still effective. My favorite memory was when he set up a practice that was purely centered around headers and just had us practice heading in crosses. 2 players got concussions that practice from the constant heading of a driven ball, and one had long-term effects from that concussion. Just plain dumb. "

"Yon is very easy to get along with, but sometimes comes off a bit conceited in the recruiting process. Visiting the school was a pleasure, however, and you can tell he cares about how the players fit at the university. "

"Doesn’t know what he is talking about when he coaches. Gives misleading information. Super passive aggressive and not understanding in the slightest. Values his own time and does not respect others’. Would not recommend. A big reason most people dropped the team when they did"
