"Beth is a great & effective coach. She turns her bench players into starters to continue on maintaining the strong SCFH reputation. You'll become a better player under her, guaranteed, with a deeper understanding of game & strategy. She is harder on the non-starters & doesn't connect to them as well. If you aren't cutting it, you'll know it. The key is to not take her tone personally, and push yourself to be better- not to be discouraged or think you'll never play."
"Beth is very straight forward in the recruiting process, however she does play favorites during the season. She is less forward once a player is on the team. She can come off cold but has an expansive knowledge of field hockey and our components."
"Beth was very nosy with social behavior of players. She would often pry for information far beyond what she needed to know as a coach. Players that provided this information, Beth really liked. In turn, players that did not provide the information, she would tend to not like. Along with this, it was incredibly uncomfortable to travel with her or go to other sports-related events due to how disrespectful and rude she could be to other people (i.e. parents, hotel employees on overnights, people working games at other campuses, etc.). She would often talk down to people and be very dismissive, making it very uncomfortable to be associated with her. Lastly, she tended to have a very different coaching style depending on who she was directing her coaching to on the field. There would be players that could do no wrong in her eyes and others that would constantly receive negative feedback no matter what the outcome of the game was. Overall it was a very discouraging way of coaching and affected many people I played with throughout the years very poorly."
"She was extremely knowledgeable, used our time effectively, respected time commitments, ensured that we fulfilled academic commitments, and really wanted us to learn. I fully absorbed appreciation for these things after graduating and realising how much I'd learned from her. At the time, I was quite caught up in the fact that she paid more attention to starters, did not connect with us on a social level, and had a level of intimidation that instilled a bit of perfectionism and anxiety at times. However ultimately I learned from all of these things, whether 'good' or 'bad'!"
