"Mendenhall definitely isn’t a coach for everybody given the way he runs his programs, but I don’t necessarily mean that to be a bad thing. I’m glad I played for him. He’s different from most stereotypical football coaches, and he is extremely consistent and actually practices what he preaches. He definitely cares a lot about off-field performance and developing players for life after football. There were some things I disagreed with him on, as there will be with any leader, but at the end of the day it’s hard to not respect him given the way he lives his life. Mendenhall is a coach that you’d want your kid to play for; you know it’ll be tough for them, but good for them as a result. "
