"Coach Vicky might come across as intense at first and she definitely is when it comes to training standards. But once you get to know her, you will realize she is actually very approachable and communicative. sometimes you may feel a lot of pressure, but eventually you will understand that the pressure she put on you is because she truly believe in you and knows exactly what you are capable of.
The journey with her is not always easy, but it is through that challenge that I was able to push past my limits and achieve things I didn't think I could. Coach Vicky didn't just help me grow in skills, she made me mentally stronger as well. "
"I really loved my time playing for her and feel like I improved so much because of her coaching. She's great at helping during matches and always knows exactly what to focus on in practice to make the biggest difference. Practices always included both singles and doubles, with specific drills that targeted whatever we were struggling with. She made time for every player on the team and was always open to extra hitting whenever someone needed it. She’s super motivational and supportive, and it always felt like she truly cared about helping each of us grow both on and off the court. I’ll always look back on my time with her as one of the best parts of my tennis journey!"
"Vicky is a very motivated and experienced coach who played for years herself at a very high level. She makes sure to pass on her experience and tips to make any committed player better. I had gotten an injury during my time with her. She was constantly supporting me to get through this hard time. She made sure I had all the things I needed, from doctor appointments to rehab exercises and even throwing balls when I was allowed to finally start hitting again. She made sure I was still involved with the team in any way possible and never made me feel alone. She has not only made me a better player but also a better person and I will be forever grateful to be able to attend UNM."
"Coach Vicky has been nothing short of incredible during my time with her. I transferred in and wasn’t sure what to expect, but she quickly became one of the most impactful coaches I’ve ever had. She’s disciplined, motivational, and genuinely committed to helping every player grow both on and off the court. From the beginning, she took time to understand my journey and was always open to working with me through any challenges while still pushing me to be my best.
She’s a tough coach, but in the best way—because she truly believes in each player’s potential. She holds us to a high standard not to break us down, but because she knows exactly what we’re capable of. Every practice was built with purpose, every drill had intention and she worked closely with her coaching staff to have the best team culture. I’m proud to have been coached by someone who saw more in me than I saw in myself at times. Her leadership shaped me as both an athlete and a person."
"Not what expected. Disappointed. Team culture is poor. Lack of emotional intelligence. Expectations vs. reality are no where in the ball park of each other"
"Probably one of the worst coaches I have ever had. I have so much trauma and anxiety from the one year I spent being coached by him. He says he cares about players, but as soon as you get injured or sick he will act like you did it on purpose and like you are the scum of the earth. Everyone who came in the year I got there, quit that same year because of how badly they were treated. He uses punishment as a way to teach you not to drop a ball, and if you do something he doesn't like in practice, he will make you pepper with the wall indefinitely. Also likes to use public embarrassment with his little whiteboard. You are supposed to honestly put how many hours you have slept and how your body feels on the whiteboard, but if it's anything less than 8 hours, and feeling great you will be asked in front of everyone why you didn't do better. While being coached by him I became severely underweight, and my mental health got so bad to the point where my counselor had to write a note that I was not okay to practice due to the amount of anxiety and stress just going to practice brought me. Half of the team was seeing counselors because of his effect on their mental health. Also, don't expect to have summer or winter break free from volleyball, because he will have you do something volleyball-related every day that you are on break (even though I'm not entirely sure that is allowed) and scold you if you skipped a day. If you want to keep your mental health, run from this coach."
"Never experienced a coach that made me feel more insignificant as a human being. I cannot count the times I heard that basketball was more important than academics or that he wasn’t “paying us 40,000 a year to miss layups”. I’ve seen so much roster turnover under him and it’s clear why: he doesn’t understand how to coach women. The tactics he uses are outdated and aggressive. He is not honest or open in communication with players, often pinning them against each other for his own benefit. If your looking for a place to better yourself in both sport and education, look elsewhere."
"Mendenhall definitely isn’t a coach for everybody given the way he runs his programs, but I don’t necessarily mean that to be a bad thing. I’m glad I played for him. He’s different from most stereotypical football coaches, and he is extremely consistent and actually practices what he preaches. He definitely cares a lot about off-field performance and developing players for life after football. There were some things I disagreed with him on, as there will be with any leader, but at the end of the day it’s hard to not respect him given the way he lives his life. Mendenhall is a coach that you’d want your kid to play for; you know it’ll be tough for them, but good for them as a result. "
"She is not good at communicating. Her practices are not good enough, and every time we did bad at any meet after covid, she would excuse herself saying that covid was the main reason for the bad results.
She doesn’t know how to lead at all, and I have the feeling that must of the time, she was not coming prepared with the practices. The practices were easy, but when they were hard, they were intense and not functional for everyone.
She would be distracted during practices, not paying attention to some of my teammates, and not making an effort to correct techniques."
"Bob is an incredible coach who gets the most out of his athletes. Loyola didn't realize what they had in him and it's a shame that the program is moving away from jumps, sprints, hurdles, and throws. It's incredible what Bob did with no track. He will be missed! Any program that gets him will be getting the best kept secret in track. "
"Couldn't stand him. Tries to belittle you and he picks favorites. Tries to get kids to quit so he can have there scholarship and sometimes even works. Good talent evaluator only reason he's still there. "
