"Swam under Canaan when he was GA at GA Southern and he was absolutely amazing. His knowledge and passion for swimming is incredible, and his practices easily show his expertise. In the midst of a negative culture among the rest of the coaching staff, Canaan was always a positive light. He helped bring me out of a really dark place and showed that he believed in me. It was obvious that he cared for and respected every one of his athletes, no matter if you were the fastest or slowest person on the team. He truly wanted everyone to succeed and would do whatever it took to help you reach your goals. He is a great team player and works to create a positive team environment. I can’t remember details but one time he lost a bet to a teammate and had to do the set with us and one time I’m pretty sure he also did a 2 fly for time because we did something well. His coaching style is direct, honest, and supportive. He expects a lot out of you but will also give you what you need to achieve it. He will be your biggest supporter, and I can’t recommend swimming for him enough if you have the chance. "
