"Chas is a really solid coach. I know there are a lot of reviews that say that he is racist and bigoted but that is definitely not the case. He may be a little disorganized at times but honestly I think it adds to his charm. Chas is definitely a go with the flow guy which has been awesome for me. As someone who has never been to the West Coast Chas made a considerable effort to take the team to cool places so we could see things other than the track or course. Chas has even gone so far to take the team an hour out of the way to go run in a beautiful redwood forest because I had said that I’d never seen redwoods before. Most of his training is effort based. This means if you are being overtrained it’s your own fault. Sure he wants you to go fast in workouts and will sometimes give you paces that you’ll be unsure of but there have been very few times where the paces that he has given me wasn’t something that I couldn’t dig deep to hit. Another really great thing about Chas is that he will tell it to you as it is. I have definitely had my share of bad races and he is very straight forward about them but honestly it can be a bit refreshing. Coming from a coach that wouldn’t talk to me after a bad race it has been a breath of fresh air to know that he still cares about you and that he doesn’t fault you for your mistakes. Would definitely recommend Chas and would Definitely recommend UAA."

"As a parent of a D1 athlete, Chas was a large part of the reason my daughter decided to attend her university. Chas was always, and still is, one of the kindest, most caring coaches I have ever met. He is encouraging, supportive, hard-working, personable, respectful, and extremely knowledgeable. He truly cares about his athletes, both on the track, in the classroom, and as students and young adults balancing the many demands they face. When my daughter was struggling with some injuries and personal issues, Chas was always there for her. Even though Chas is now at a different university, my daughter and our family still keep in touch with him. He is an outstanding person and any athlete would be privileged to call him "Coach.""

"Chas is a well rounded coach who knows what he is doing. Every time I would speak to him, I would be shocked at how positive of an experience it was. Many coaches can be super unavailable and not friendly, and Chas is the exact opposite of that. If something comes up, he is happy to get together and work things through as both a coach and friend. He truly believes in his athletes, which is exactly what you need if you are truly striving to be the best runner and person you can be."

"Coach Chaz is one of the few coaches in the NCAA who has perfected the balance of hard work and enjoying life. Being coached by this man is a gift. There's no excuse for the bad reviews on here. It's a bunch of second class athletes who are prone to blaming others for their own failure. "

"Chas can definitely give the vibe that he doesn’t always take everything as seriously as people expect him to, but that’s one of the things that makes him a great coach. Most of us can benefit from taking ourselves a little less seriously and having more fun, and Chas does a great job of fostering a team culture where having fun is encouraged. He cares deeply about his athletes - I’ve never known him to neglect an athlete in need or reaching out for help - and he does everything he can to help them develop, both as athletes and as people. My experience with Chas has been 100% positive"

"Chas is one of the best college coaches we have seen. He is excellent in recruiting athletes; he is great at communicating and makes the process fun with social media. "My student had the opportunity to be coached by Chas, and she had such a positive experience! He is dedicated, knowledgeable, caring, and creates a team environment that fosters inclusion and belonging. He makes the hard work of running and training fun and celebrates each athlete as they develop. He also values each team member as a human being, which is so refreshing in the increasingly high pressure environment of college athletics. My student ran well when coached by Chas, and truly loved being a part of his team. I’ll add that as a former collegiate coach myself, Chas is doing everything right. Any runner would be lucky to be on a team he coaches."

"I have had many assistant coaches during my college running career and I would honestly say Coach Davis was the best one. He does a great job of keeping it professional as a coach while also expressing interest in his athletes' life and caring about them outside of athletics. Even when I was not performing well, he always expressed belief in me and encouraged me. He completely understood the importance of school and never once made me feel like I had to give up academic requirements for running. Since he was my assistant coach he did not write the majority of our workouts, but I remember always liking his workouts the days he was in charge and feeling like they were more tailored to me. He has a great personality as well, which helps make running and focusing on the process fun/enjoyable. I could not recommend Coach Davis more and so happy to see him doing well at Alaska. I have a friend running for him for next year and can't stop telling her how excited I am for her to have him as a coach. I appreciate Coach Davis's mentorship so much and can't thank him enough!"

"Chas has been there for me through so much. He was such an important coach in my college career. He believed in me, he pushed me to be better, and he looked out for our entire team. He truly cared about us outside of running and so many people never take that chance to. He is passionate about what he does and he knows how to coach people to not only be better runners but better people. There were so many times in my career that I contemplated moving on from running or going somewhere else and Chas was the one person who made me want to stay. He has always had my back and I know so many women and men I ran with feel the same. Chas is what the running world needs. We need more people who care and more people to advocate for athletes and he did all of this and more. He made my college running experience better and I cannot thank him enough! "

"Looks like there’s some disgruntled spam reviews here… I can’t speak to anyone else’s experience, but my daughter ran for Coach Davis and never had anything but good things to say about him. He was always supportive and considerate of her, and helped her through running slumps and academic woes. She loved running with the team, and always said Coach Davis was good about cheering everyone on. I do remember my daughter telling me about a couple athletes on full scholarships that didn’t run over the pandemic before Coach Davis was there and who didn’t want to keep running once Coach Davis arrived…but also didn’t want to give up their full scholarships. It sounds like those runners became very negative when Coach Davis asked them to cooperate with the team once the pandemic was over. Maybe that’s where these post are coming from?"

"I am also a current minority on the team. Notice all the negative posts were made on the same day, the same day that Coach had to remove one of our minority teammates for getting in trouble with the university. The same teammate (and their friends) who had been disciplined multiple times for other infractions, who were always late and never really liked to run or be on the team (but had too much financial incentive from the previous coach to quit). As a minority on the team, I’ve never experienced any racism, mysoginy or bias from Coach, nor has anyone else I’ve known. Those on the team who like to run and race have had nothing but positive experiences since he is approachable, encourages our participation in planning our training, always listens when something is wrong and just seems to really care about our well being and overall experience at UAA. Sure coach isn’t perfect like anyone, but the only person who I’ve heard had an overall bad experience was the person who got in trouble with the university multiple times. I think we know who these posters are.."
