"Dave only coached to select players on the team. If you were not one of the few he favored, you became a scapegoat for all the mistakes of the team as a whole. Forget it if you couldn’t play the way he wanted you to. If you could not conform your playing style to his, you were not advancing off the practice squad. This was not to be confused with being unable to adjust to his floor coverage and positioning. This was if you were unable to change your technique. Regardless if you were a decent player, or if there was nothing wrong, if you could not adjust to how he specifically wanted your form, you were not playing. He was not motivational if you were struggling and his coaching technique/style was closer to yelling profanities than to anything instructional. He was disrespectful to his players, and there were numerous instances of Dave being unprofessional and using disrespectful language directed at the team infront of recruits. He had discussions with players about changing their majors so they would have more time to focus on volleyball, and showed little to no support for the girls that did not want to sacrifice their future career for the sport. He was emotionally insensitive to players on multiple occasions. He had shown little sympathy when there had been a hospitalization of a player’s family members mid season, and he took it out on her when it was affecting her performance on the court. He would often “pout” on the bench, letting his assistant take over coaching. Dave would sit on the bench, arms folded, with an annoyed look on his face, only moving to throw his arms up in the air or act like he was going to break his clipboard. One instance in particular was so bad, the other team’s student section called him out on it mid game and made up a chant for him. "
