"As a former player, I can honestly say this program made me and several of my teammates fall out of love with the game. Dave Macedo recruits 17–18 guys every year, but his rotation never goes deeper than 6. Starters play 35+ minutes a night, and the first guy off the bench might get 10- 15minutes if he’s lucky. That leaves way too many players sitting on the bench with no role, which kills team chemistry and morale. He’s always prepared for opponents, but the only real way into his good graces is to come in from day one and constantly kiss up. Even then, you might not crack the rotation until the end of your sophomore year. On top of that, his behavior with referees is a major problem. He gets a technical foul almost every game because of how he talks to them, and it always seems to bleed over and hurt the team. He already has a bad reputation with Virginia officials for constantly complaining and being overly demanding whenever things don’t go his way. The one bright spot is Assistant Coach Marcus Curry, who’s great to work with. But overall, the program that once had success is now poorly run and in desperate need of new leadership. I wouldn’t recommend this program to anyone considering it."
