Some may describe as “mean”, but don’t let him hear that or you’ll be doing pieces until you’re regurgitating off port side. As a millennial cal rower, I appreciated this and I did feel as though he cared about his athletes despite his often surly demeanor - which was taken in good humor considering the elite nature of our team and goal for an IRA gold (which we accomplished btw). Perhaps a coach of a bygone era but still effective in making boats go fast and, for many, turning boys into men. "
