"Very knowledgeable about the stroke and about racing. However, will only give athletes attention and feedback or opportunities to move up if you’re on his good side— you’ll never know how you got on his bad side. He didn’t let me seat race for an entire season because of an academic engagement. Coaching staff is rotating, and communication between coaches and athletes is okay at best. There was a point where the EMU team made me hate this sport, but supporting athletics staff has helped me form a better relationship with athletics. Only go to this team if you fit the mold of a perfect rower/athlete/runner. Team culture is very cliquey, and coaches know this and don’t do a lot for team building; team building opportunities were cut every year I was on the team. My final year I had a spoke less than 100 words between Kemp and I after trying to initiate discussions. Be ready to be kicked when you're already down by Kemp because he “knows who needs a hig and who needs a kick in the ass” (no he doesn’t). "
