Knows The Game Knowledgeable Understanding Honest Great Leader
"During my time at Rich Mountain, I noticed at every home game and every away game an individual came to our games to support the other team no matter who we played, that unfortunately was our ‘head coach’. I couldn’t be any truer when I say he gave opposition players more feedback when they would get the ball for a throw in then he would’ve given any of us the whole semester I mean it. He unfortunately gave up with the men’s team before it had even started, made sure we did no intense training sessions then would be confused as to why we never matched the intensity of other teams early into games, also didn’t believe in training matches then wondered why we didn’t know how to play in his 600 systems that he also never taught us, and even told the girls team ‘men are stupid’ and that he didn’t believe in any of us succeeding. He countlessly rather than building our confidence up and getting us mentally prepared for a match, would tell us negative things to ‘get a reaction’ like a budget superhero villain. Throughout my time with him, although things didn’t go the way I’d have hoped, I was nothing but respectful to him and his coaching staff, and whilst his staff showed me the same respect, Sherry didn’t. I think maybe because he's coached for so long or maybe because he’s just a grumpy old man that he now has the right to treat anyone how he wants, and unfortunately with me that’s how he saw the matter. From how dismissive he was of my presence when I first introduced myself, to his lack of care when I’d text him asking for conversation surrounding my future, he was unfortunately very inconsiderate, even for a boy who had travelled across the planet to play college soccer, not be apart of the Sherry mind games (once again MY OWN MANAGER). So Sherry when you eventually read this, just remember you turn 63 this year unc. "

" I moved across the world to come to the US and play for Kevin Sherry, only to be deceived, belittled, and mocked. Kevin Sherry cares for no one but himself! If you’re having a difficult time deciding whether or not to play for him, take it from me—someone who didn’t last a single semester under him—do not do it. He had a team of 30+ lads, and more than half the team quit, found another school, or went back home. I highly suggest you do your research, contact his former players, and SPEAK TO THEM. I’m almost 100% positive every single one will say the same thing. He genuinely does not care about you. He spent most of the season away back home (in a completely different state) while leaving two teams to the assistant coaches. I genuinely have no idea how they’ve put up with him. He will break you down and speak ill of you to others. He will call you stupid, an idiot, or simply say you are rubbish. He will not help you find a school as he hasn’t helped a single person from the women’s or men’s team find one, so his “background” doesn’t matter. Playing under Kevin Sherry will get you nowhere. "

"my time under coach sherry was short, and there’s a very good reason for that. from my first time meeting him to my final session under him, sherry showed no matter what he did not care about his players or results, but instead belittling them and leaving his players to his assistants whilst he hid in louisiana until matchday. before the guys had a season defining match in which they must win, sherry told the guys there is no way they leave the pitch having won the game, which left even his captain, the nicest kid you could meet, in shock but also infuriated. if you ever had a concern, query, or just even wanted to have a conversation with your manager, trying to contact sherry was like attempting to platt fog. instead of trying to help us improve or even become stronger as a group, sherry would instead compare us to higher level teams he played for whenever we made a mistake like a toxic ex. being able to have some words with new recruits, i very honestly told them the college is friendly, even the assistants will be able to try and point you in the right direction, but the coach unfortunately will do nothing but waste your time. "I am so glad I played for Coach Sherry. He is kind. Coach Sherry is always there for us giving advice and making us better players, students and human beings. Coach Sherry acts as a mentor ro the assistant coaches and gives them a lot of responsibility to help them in their development. This is so refreshing when you think most coaches act as if it is all about them. I have learned so much from Coach Sherry which has helped me to continue my playing career to a higher level, thanks to him. Being coached by Coach Sherry has been a great joy in my life."

"Kevin Sherry is not the coach he is often made out to be. Throughout the season, he was largely absent from coaching responsibilities, frequently delegating to his assistant coaches—who deserve immense credit, as they were the reason many players stayed for the full year. Early in the season, Sherry openly expressed doubts about the men’s team, stating that he did not believe in them and had already given up. This demoralizing approach contributed to the loss of half the men's team by the end of the semester. During games, rather than strategizing to recover from a deficit, he would adopt a defeatist attitude, making it clear that he preferred the team to "throw in the towel" rather than fight for a comeback. His coaching style was more about tearing players down than building them up. Instead of providing constructive feedback, he resorted to calling players weak when all they wanted was to play soccer. Furthermore, he was often absent for extended periods without informing the team, demonstrating a clear lack of commitment to his players. Off the field, Sherry rarely engaged with his athletes unless he had something negative to say. Recruits should be aware that once they arrive, they will likely receive little to no acknowledgment from him. If a player disagreed with his methods, he would label them as toxic and discourage others from associating with them. While the school itself offers a great environment, playing under Kevin Sherry is likely to be a disappointing and frustrating experience. If you are looking for a supportive and inspiring coach, I strongly advise looking elsewhere."

"I loved my time with coach Sherry - he has so much experience and helped me improve greatly. I loved the way he stood up to the 'toxic' player sin the group who complained constantly about everything, just because they were not getting the playing minutes they thought they should be receiving. Coach Sherry was fair, honest and held players accountable, whilst giving everyone an opportunity to learn and develop. More coaches should stand up to bully and toxic players in the team like Coach Sherry does. "

"The most unprofessional coach I've ever had. He does not communicate with players or assistant coach's. When you ask questions on improving or game play he says he can't answer them. If you don't make a good first impression Goodluck on seeing the field. Leaves every weekend without a heads up very last minute practices. No game plans will tell the team that they are going to loose at half time. Overall not a good coach "

"This man is one of the worst people I’ve ever known. He called girls fat, useless, slow, and just in general other awful comments. He cultivated an environment where he constantly pitted other girls against each other and never encouraged anyone. He actually said he didn’t like any of us besides one girl. This man is emotionally and verbally abusive. I had to quit my dream of playing college soccer due to how badly he affected my mental health. I truly hope he has changed, but I doubt it. Please never play for him. "

"Outstanding person and coach. Has immense knowledge and understanding of the game. The players at Grambling University appreciated his efforts both on and off the field. As an assistant he provided the program that extra edge that allowed us to reach back to back finals. His attention to detail is next to none. He has an excellent demeanor with the players and coaching staff. His contributions were outstanding to the program. "

Not pleasant to be around, constantly distanced himself from players and team activities. Not any positive or constructive criticism given, just all negative, and elitist. Unfortunately had a poor experience despite having a lot of playing time. Other coaching staff were amazing and too bad they also left the program. They inspired and shared the true love of the game while also creating lifelong friendships/mentorships with other players"
