"In my tenure at fairfield I learned alot about Luke. Starting with the positives, he is a very friendly man. If I met him on the street, at work, or in class I would not have an issue with him. The only problem with that is he was the head coach of my team, not my friend, classmate, or colleague. Luke lacked any leadership skills and never once had control over the team. Reverting back to my original statement, no one took him seriously because we all saw him as some dude rather than a figure of leadership. Every year, somehow, he would coach the 1v to be slower than the 2v and than refuse to make any smart or informed switches between the boats. Their where countless practices where he would leave midway through and leave us on our own until we either decided to take it in or one of the assistants found us and coached us in. The only technical thing he would say was “back your blades in” or something like “swing more” He would reuse pratice plans over and over. Drills that would in no way addres the issues a boat had would constantly be used, same with workouts. He would not communicate lineups or workouts at all. As a matter of fact, we started just switching our lineup on our own because he refused to addres blatant problems within the boat lineup. If you texted him, you’d be lucky to get a response and talking to him about how to improve or how a boat could do better was a nightmare. If you where to take a look at the results he coached us to, you would believe that this man picked up 9 people off the streets, threw them in an 8 and told them to go race. He upheld a standard and culture of losing. Their was no care as to the result we had from a race. Normally, with a coach you would want to do well to impress and not make them disapointed. I could have cared less what we pulled because he probably didn’t care at all either. He was kinda funny though and sort of fun to talk to before a race or something. "
