"The significant chasm between those who recommend coach Boswell and those who don’t is telling and speaks to the polarizing nature of this coach. She definitely has her favorites but their experience is not the same as others. Good coaches get the best out of all of their players. Her caring ends when she feels a player is no longer useful. These athletes commit the fall of their junior years and completely shut down their recruiting process. They deserve transparency and honesty. There is a consistent pattern of pulling scholarships after freshman year before a player has had a chance to earn playing time. As a non-starter freshman there is very little opportunity to be seen and earn playing time. This may speak to a bigger NCAA issue. Roster caps and the transfer portal incentivize lower level teams to grab players from better programs instead of developing players on their own teams: That’s unfortunate and not what college sports are supposed to be about. Lesson learned. My advice to athletes is to pick a program where they can make an immediate impact, they’ll be happier and better positioned if they choose to enter the portal."

"Coach Boswell is truly a great coach who cares about her players as people, not just players. Like any coach she wants to win and will push her players to achieve their individual goals as well as their team goals. She is not for everyone as players who cannot handle constructive feedback don't seem to mesh well with her, but she's honest and direct and will do everything she can to get the most out of you while also caring deeply about you as a person."

"When 11 players decide to enter the portal & 3 additional quit at the end of a season (2026), it seems very clear that there is a much larger issue than "disgruntled mommies and daddies" or a lack of motivation and/or desire from the players themselves. That number screams of an unhealthy, toxic and unfulfilling athletic experience, and should not be overlooked. As a parent of one of the aforementioned 14 players, I can assure you we had nothing to do with her decision to move on - that decision was driven entirely on her own, and based on the relentless mind-games, berating of players and unrealistic expectations set by Coach Boswell and her staff. Do significant homework and make numerous reach outs to current and former players prior to making a commitment to HPU..."

"I played for Coach Boswell for 5 years and would not have wanted it any other way. She is very intense and will do anything to get her team to play at their best, which should be expected at the D1 level. This includes providing team yoga, EQ, vitamins, nutrition advice, coordinating with strength coaches and ATs on progress through the year. She is very clear on what the expectations will be through the recruiting process and on day 1 before practices even start. She expects the same level of commitment from everyone on the team, just because you are injured or not getting the playtime you want doesn't mean you are any less apart of the team as people who start in games, which again should be expected at this level. She fosters leadership skills in her players and deeply cares about them, not only about their performance on the field but that they are setting themselves up with the right mindset and skills to enter the real world. She takes her players health and nutrition very seriously. At one away trip our team got food poisoning and she stayed up all night helping girls who were sick (while she herself was also sick) and set us up at an IV clinic to replace fluids as soon as we got back to campus. There are people who like to point the blame at her and tear down the High Point program for their own personal shortcomings (and skew graduation/transfer statistics, particularly the one in an earlier review) which is just not true. If you are not willing to put in the work to get better and be apart of a team then this is not the place for you. Overall, my experience with Coach Boswell has been very positive. I've learned so many life lessons that I will be able to carry with me through my career that have already put me ahead of other people my age."

"My daughter was a recent 4 year student athlete under Coach Boswell. She will be your daughter's most influential role model during her 4 years and I could not ask for anyone better. Coach Boswell is always available to your daughter, on and off the field - the players are an extension of her family. She expects a positive attitude, hard work ethic, and dedication to the team as well as one's own development on and off the field. Her expectations are appropriate for a D1 program and the student athlete she develops will be a well rounded woman that is competitive, disciplined, a fluid leader and follower, a team player that will excel in the real world, and someone that has a high EQ. These skills will serve your daughter in her future post graduation. "

"Much of the sophomore class is leaving. Some because they don't want to play lacrosse any longer, some because they want to play at a lower level, be at a bigger school, be closer to home. Some are leaving because they weren't getting the playing time they thought they deserved (or their parents thought they deserved). HPU has one of the best dining plans in the country and athletes take full advantage. Yes, she encourages healthy eating, more protein, less crap. When recruited, players are told that to keep their scholarship, they have to perform, just like at every other school in the country. And no, I am not a coach. If recruits want the truth, then they should talk to the girls who are on the team, not the quitters' parents. Coach Boswell is direct and she will push these girls to get more out of them when she sees their potential, just like every other division 1 coach. "

"I played for Coach Boswell and all of the values and expectations she had when she first started. The program are still true today. She cares deeply about her players on and off the field. She offers programs like yoga, vitamins, and ministry to support the student athletes. Coach Boswell is direct. This can be uncomfortable for people since they are not used to hearing what truly needs to be said. This is coming from a player who didn’t “start”, but I was given feedback and took that to earn my playing time and became a top contributor. "

"A primary indicator of a program’s health, culture, and ultimate effectiveness is how many players leave and why. The HPU women’s lacrosse team is losing 20 players this year. All but 3 players in the sophomore class are leaving and 10 out of 15 in the freshman class have either been cut, are leaving because their scholarships were taken, or are choosing to transfer because they are unhappy. Coach Boswell’s coaching style is an unfortunate combination of desperation (with a singular focus on winning the Big South Championship), and intimidation. That combined with her ignorance of proper nutrition for athletes, and rejection of proper training and recovery parameters set by the NCAA put players’ mental and physical health at risk. I implore anyone who is considering sending their daughter to High Point to run in the opposite direction. I wish we were alerted to the toxic atmosphere and instability of the program before committing. "

"This coach creates a highly controlling and unhealthy team environment. There are consistent concerns about manipulative behavior and a lack of honesty with players, particularly during the recruiting process. Players have reported being told their scholarships were secure, only to later have financial aid reduced or taken away—often due to injury or subjective evaluations of performance. The coach is also known to overstep personal boundaries by monitoring players’ screen time and closely tracking their social media activity. This level of surveillance feels invasive and contributes to a culture of discomfort and mistrust within the team. Additionally, there are serious concerns regarding player welfare. Reports indicate that athletes have been placed on restrictive diets, raising questions about the promotion of unhealthy habits. Injured players, in particular, appear to receive little to no support. Instead of being cared for during recovery, some have been cut from the team or penalized, with minimal communication or concern for their well-being. If you're injured, you might as well just be on your own. There are also concerns about how former players are treated. Individuals who leave the program are often spoken about negatively, which can create a divisive and uncomfortable team culture. For example, during a game against a team with a former player, the coach questioned whether current players should even be friends with that individual. Behavior like this discourages healthy relationships and fosters unnecessary tension. More broadly, the coach appears to foster division within the team by turning players against each other, which undermines trust, damages team chemistry, and creates a toxic environment rather than a supportive one. Overall, this coaching approach lacks transparency, support, and respect for athletes, making it a negative experience for many involved. I would never send my daughter there.. and if yours is committed, find other options asap."
