"I’ve played soccer competitively since I was four years old and it’s been a huge part of my life. Matter of fact it was something I shared with my father and I considered myself an “expert” in my sport because of how much attention to detail I put into it. I went through grade school being one of the most reliable players on every one of my teams. I’ve always had slight confidence issues but I never let it show on the field. I was recruited to be an outside back for this coach and surprise I was not placed there. I was put at the left wing which is a whole different world because I came to this man as a defender/center mid so why would he put me in the wing? A question I’ve asked myself multiple times. He does not know how to analyze players and put them in the spot they thrive in. At the age of 18 and up you have mastered a specific position by now and to create a balanced and consistent team you need to place players in the positions that they excel in. Matthew Hisler did not do that, we have had offensive players play in the back line and they have no clue what they are doing. Not only that but Hisler chooses favorites on his team. You can clearly tell who he favors and who the extra attention goes to. There was a handful of players left out just because Hisler didn’t want to take the extra time for them as well. Now let’s get to safety. My best friend was given CLEAR instructions that she should not be playing a full 90 minute game due to her shin splints and then being inflamed. The athletic trainer had told Hisler this and he completely ignored it, my best friend played a 90 minute game as a winger and ended the game with a stress fracture. Great job coach!! This is not the only player he has done this to, he overworks our center mid who literally has cysts in her knees. Not only that but he will have GOOD TALENTED players ride the bench all season and will instead play a “favored” player. There is no structure on the team and honestly Hisler does nothing but feed into the drama. Instead of giving you clear instructions he leaves it up to the player which only creates confusion and lack of confidence in a player. Hisler made me feel stupid with the way he would talk to me, he was very undermining and manipulative with his words. I could write a whole book about how horrible my experience was with this coach and the school as a whole. There was once an issue with financial aid and it caused me to not be able to get a schedule for the start of my sophomore year, however when I asked for help, all he did was set up meetings and ask me what I could do to make the situation better, not to mention the situation was way above me, there was no personal error at all, the school did not get the loan to cover the rest of my tuition and it caused a set back. Throughout this whole time I was not considered to be on the team however I went to every practice, every game, and drove myself 8 hours to nationals to go support my team. I didn’t receive a thank you or anything. I actually had to ask to be included. He says he cares about every girl on the team but leaves multiple girls hanging. Under the coaching of Hisler, I’ve lost myself as a player, a person, and I had to give up the sport I loved dearly because of how horrible I felt under him. I will never forgive him for taking away my passion for soccer. If you’re looking to be recruited by this man, please don’t save yourself and your love for the sport and choose somebody who genuinely cares for you"
"Overal I think he has a pretty good Understanding of the game but he doesn't know how to effectively teach this to his players. He lies constantly, is emotionally abusive, and manipulates people as much as possible (with his associates degree in psychology). I mention the degree because it's enough to be dangerous without really understanding the effects his use of psychology has on people. I would not recommend ever playing for him.
Ultimately he stays on board as a coach because of his "politician" demeanor. "
"I had got recruited to play for the team, but I never the chance to touch the field. He recruited me to be a bench warmer. I never even played a college game. "

"Pathological liar. Makes promises and does not keep them. Disorganized practice sessions. A U10 team can beat the college team because of his lack of recruitment and ability to keep players. Talks about you behind your back. Tries to hide things from athletic director for his players, he cant control his team. Hid illegal actions from Athletic director that the team part-takes in. Degrades you and blames you for other peoples mistakes. Tries to make you feel like your not good enough to play anywhere else in order to keep you on the team. In the past 4 years he averaged 7 players quitting or transferring EVERY YEAR!"
"He will make you question your ability as an athlete, he will talk about you behind your back, and when he is recruiting he tells a bunch of lies just to make him sound good. He can be very degrading when he is speaking to you. He lacks skill development in coaching and he loses about 6 players each season. He has the ability to make you lose the love you have for the sport. "
"Lacks emotional control and tries to manipulate players. Dont know how well he really understands the game. His office is always open if you want to talk.
Overall he did run decent training sessions but really lacks player management skills.
Heads up for players talking to coaches. Most of the them will lie and stretch the truth to get you there"
