"Scott has an old school mentality and has “his guys” that he gives all the opportunities to. He has an inability to know anything about developing a strong pitching staff and makes poor decisions that hurt the Islanders ability to make deep post season runs. Why develop a team of guys when you can overthrow 5 people you particularly like throughout the season?
His methods are not backed by science or a strong knowledge of how the body creates power through the kinetic chain. "
"Coach Malone loves the game no doubt, but he doesn't take time to actually evaluate player's skill sets. He gets into the mentality that he has "my guy". This is present on both hitting and pitching. If he likes you and you are not a good player you will still play all the time. If you are really good, and he doesn't like you, you will see the field once every 2 weeks.
He gets super anxious when playing against Sam Houston of all schools. Out of every coach I've ever had, he's been the most disconnected with players, has actually played favoritism which is wild to me, because your job requires you to win, not shake hands with players parents before games. If you have a chance to play here, just consider that if Malone is still the head coach, you have an uphill battle just to place high in the conference, and you will listen to piss poor U2 music during practice. He will choose his guys he likes, and for whatever reason will find any excuse to play them, even if it's a non-conference game against UTRGV at the beginning of the year that has little to no meaning. He's hardly had any real success with winning records which is crazy that he's still been employed here as long as he has, and his uniform selections are awful."
