"The role of a college coach is multifaceted, yet Shannon Hertz fails at every aspect. In fact, she would be out of her depth in a parking lot puddle. The role of coaching extends far beyond the field, but we will first begin by discussing the abysmal failures of this so-called coach embodied on the field. In 12 years, she holds a record of 93-93. As “the most winningest coach in school history,” it took her 12 seasons to reach 93 wins and an outstanding record of .500. In other words, you would have the same winning record if she just flipped a coin rather than coaching. As a coach, you are supposed to uplift and inspire your players; this could not be further from the truth. Outside of the late-night drunk texts to players, or her personal feelings dictating her mood, resulting in practices based on her emotional mood swings, she also lost the trust of her players. In a recent stunt of idiocy, she asked the players to write on a card explaining their feelings and mental health. This material should have been confidential (as outlined in Section 12.12), but it was not. This information was not disclosed to parents or school officials; this confidential information was, in fact, disseminated to the small clique of players Shannon views as friends. Despite this horrible and fireable offense, the message was sent to the team that private information shared between players and the coach will most certainly be shared with Shannon’s favorites. Hard to trust a coach with your feelings when your teammates will most definitely know about them, since the coach will get a kick out of sharing them. This leads to her next shortcoming (there are infinite failures, but we are only here to discuss a few). If the above hasn’t made it clear enough, the environment of this team is more akin to a reality TV show depicting the worst of Greek life than a team that is competing or, at the bare minimum, is dedicated to making themselves or each other better. In fact, this “coach” runs the team as a divided mess, pitting factions, cliques, and ages against each other. There is no place for fracture or divide in a team sport, yet Shannon is more interested in the drama than actually winning (barely a .500 win coach, so this is not surprising). In essence, the goal of a coach is to develop players and young women, but Shannon is the furthest thing from a role model that could possibly come to mind. Her best quality as a role model is to show these young women the exact person they do not want to become. As the aforementioned drunk texts indicated, this is not someone who should be in charge of anything, let alone the future development of young women. She has hit rock bottom and seems committed to digging. I implore anyone who reads this to consider each and every other school that is an option for your child, as avoiding Shannon Hertz might be the best decision you can make for your future collegiate athlete. "From our personal experience, Coach Hertz has zero investment in a player's physical or mental well-being. There is a lack of support and outreach to injured players. The lack of communication suggested the player mattered only when they could perform and not as a whole person. This is something recruits and parents should know before joining this program."

"Shannon Hertz is a despicable human being. She has no class and no regard for her players. Shannon talks about her players behind their backs to anyone that will listen, even other sports. She could not run a bath, let only a lacrosse team. She is more interested in the drama on the sidelines than the game itself. Hertz's idea of practice is to run, because she has no idea how to run a practice. Hertz has not elevated a single player. Some players have actually gotten worse under her leadership. Her style of coaching is out dated. She is at best, a middle school coach. The game has passed her by. She can't make in game changes, has players in the wrong position and is the laughing stock of the PSAC. Dr. McFarland, Bloomsburg Athletic Director, allows her to remain employed after countless years of complaints. If you are looking to send your daughter to Bloomsburg and think she will have a good college lacrosse experience, run. The amount of girls that need therapy after playing for her is too many to count. Dr. McFarland stands by and does nothing. It is an absolute disgrace. "

"I wish I could give 0 stars if I could. Shannon Hertz is the most unprofessional coach I have ever met. She texts her players at inappropriate hours and stalks their social media accounts. She has ruined countless of the players mental and physical health. The amount of girls who have quit under her coaching is ridiculous. She speaks about her players personal lives and issues to other players and their own friends. She is the biggest hypocrite I have ever met. For example one of her biggest rules is don’t bring a bad mood to practice. The girls are expected to follow this rule, but if she has a bad day, she shows up to practice in a horrible mood and kills the entire teams mood. She then makes them run. She doesn’t allow any of the girls who are ON THE FIELD give any of their input for the game or do what they think is best because “her game plan works.” But if you look at the teams record… it clearly doesn’t. Don’t be fooled by how nice and welcoming she and the team is when being recruited. She forces the girls to be nice to everyone and tell them how amazing the team is. The girls are amazing and super nice but would much rather tell recruits the truth and run while they can. Every single person I have spoken to who knows her has never said one nice thing about her. The fact that she has not been fired yet is absolutely ridiculous. She is mentally abusive and rude. I wish I could go on because there are endless horror stories about this coach, but there’s not enough time in the world to type it all out. Overall, she has ruined my love as well as may of my fellow players love for the sport and she doesn’t deserve to be coaching. DO NOT allow your daughter to play for her unless you want her life to be miserable for the next 4 years."

"Shannon Hertz is a disgrace to women’s lacrosse. She not only subjected young women to excessive running, which damaged their physical bodies, but also their mental well-being. Hertz constantly talks about other players with anyone who will listen. The only reason Bloomsburg’s lacrosse program continues is due to the culture the girls create, but Hertz is so self-centered that she believes it’s because she’s a good coach. It’s a shame that Bloomsburg allows such a woman to lead a team, but McFarland is equally as embarrassing. As long as they’re running a lacrosse team, they’ll continue to mistreat young women in any way they please."

"Do not believe anything this woman says. The handwritten notes are a nice gesture, but the truth is, she’s not a good coach. She can’t make in-game decisions and can’t adapt when the other teams make changes. She doesn’t create an inclusive atmosphere; instead, she creates drama and bullies the girls. She talks about the girls with other girls on the sidelines. If she’s in a bad mood, she makes the girls run. When they win, it’s because the attack played well. When they lose, she blames the defense. She doesn’t watch film, so she’s never prepared for a game. She tells the girls “my plan works”. Clearly it does not as they continue to lose! If your daughter has an opportunity to go somewhere else… take it and run! "

"This coach is CLUELESS. She is unable to recognize talent, plays favorites and doesn't make any adjustments during the game even when they are losing by 10 or more. Do not fall for the handwritten cards she mails to make you feel special. She makes fun of players for being slow or slightly bigger. Don't even think about mentioning faith or God because that is laughable to her. She doesn't know how to prepare for games. I don't know why she has been here as long as she has been. The only thing she is good at is lying to recruits and parents. "
