"I was excited to play for Humboldt given the history the softball team had. However, I quickly learned despite how good you are or how hard you worked to be on the field it did not matter if you were not her favorite. There was a handful of players I personally felt should not have been starters but they were. It was sad to see people that deserved to be on the field were not. The players on the bench would get yelled at more than the players actually playing. Somehow it would be the benches fault for the players on the field making errors/losing the game. I never felt so unmotivated and unappreciated until I went to Humboldt. I lost all of my confidence and lost my passion for the game. I redshirted my freshmen and played the following year as a DH (sometimes). The only person I felt that was in my corner was coach Reid. When coach Reid left I felt things went south quickly and Shellys true colors really showed. She would talk crap about players on her team and make fun of the girls she did not like. Which made me wonder what she would say about me behind my back. I quit during my 3rd season because everyday I would dread going to practice knowing the favorites/starters would be the main priority at practice. My biggest regret is not leaving after my first year and knowing my worth. I wish I could still play because I felt I was robbed of my softball career. "

"Most of the practices were not adding value to the team and were not helping to improve team performance and individual. If she didn't like you, she would make it known to the whole team, certain people she would hate for no reason. Has done some very shady things to certain players. She doesn't believe in you and makes you feel worthless and unworthy. Never gave chances to certain people. Blames the pitchers for almost everything. She doesn't control her team. Very toxic environment that is created by Shelli herself, which makes for useless drama and makes players miserable. She is a narcissist who thinks everything she does is correct. Players made the practice plans. Every year, tons of players end up quitting. You were more likely to play if you sucked up to her and became her best friend. She doesn't hold errors accountable. Only certain players practice, and the others just run during infield and outfield. She makes promises and never keeps them. She talks about how we are a "team" but ends up talking poorly about all the girls. She commented at practice, "I only play straight girls," and has many other horrible comments. Went through a player's phone without their consent. She would be a crybaby on the sidelines if we were losing the game or were playing horribly. I have tons more to say, but I want this to be a manageable essay. "

"I'm so sorry to say on this team hard work will never pay off. It is a very toxic team with no assistance from the head coach to improve. Yes, the head coach will have her favorites but we all know this is not unusual. Her issue is making promises to girls before they commit. Playing time should never be promised but earned. The only way to survive on this Humboldt team is to brown-nose. It will never be a winning team or just a great team to play on. Girls are mean and keep in mind the issues with hazing. Humboldt has a big issue with sports unless you're doing Crew. This coach has been at Humboldt too long and has not had any success. Enjoy life and play somewhere else. Beautiful school maybe one-day housing, and coaches, will improve. If you want a winning or inspiring coach this is not the place for you but if you are lazy with school, like to smoke, and put in very little effort this is your place. Many girls just flat-out quit and do not go into the transfer portal. Many different reasons behind this. "

"I never had a coach that has treated athletes so poorly. In the 2021-22 season, 4 players quit. While I cannot speak for those that quit, there has been a lot of shady business going on within the Humboldt Softball program. A hazing situation that happened during the 2021 season that Coach Shelli should’ve been fired for. While me personally I don’t know what she did, but it did make our brand new Athletic Director quit after not even being at the school for a year. Also during our 19 day road trip there were her “favorites” that she caught smoking weed in the hotel room and did not do anything. Also another teammate bought alcohol for underage players. On top of all of that, Coach Shelli bought alcohol for the seniors using NCAA money at the local Buffalo Wild Wings. Also told a player of color that “she wasn’t the face of Humboldt Softball” and discouraged players of color from kneeling during the national anthem. Also did nothing when a group of players were misgendering another player who identified as a lesbian. Also makes fun of players bodies and comments on how big or small different players’ breast are. For me I had never had a coach talk so poorly about her players. She openly talks poorly about girls on the team to other players in her office. She sucks the joy and the love for the game from each of her players that aren’t her favorite. Even her favorites have mentioned wanting to transfer school. Don’t even get me started on the team culture. To call us a team is a big joke. You can even tell in the dugout that we don’t like one another. Every day at practice we always think “Who’s going to like me today?” There is obvious tension between players and sometimes even screaming matches against one another. But Coach Shelli doesn’t do anything about it. For as long as she has been playing and coaching she doesn’t understand the game at all. From an outside perspective, she is very very hard on the pitchers. It seems like if the pitcher gives up 2 or 3 hits she switches them out. Even if a defensive player makes an error, she will take out the pitcher and not the player that makes 6 errors in a row. For as much as I love the campus and I love softball, it’s not worth being coached under Shelli Sarchett. There so many other things I could say but you would be reading this post for a lot longer."

"Lied that I would be a starting transfer then benched me, as a D1 transfer. Was homophobic, racist and supported the teammates that were also homophonic as racist. Allowed hazing and bigotry to persist and then benched whoever spoke up about it. I will tell anyone who asks, NEVER play for coach Shelli. Also horrible coaching, just stands there and watches her teams fail and then gets mad when they don’t know what to do. Also spends NCAA money on buying alcohol for her favorites. Unprofessional, hateful, and fake. She puts on a caring facade but she only really cares if you are cisgendered, straight, and white."
