"I was an upperclassman when Coach arrived and I really wish he could have been my coach all four years. My first couple years were a struggle emotionally and mentally. He helped me fall in love with the game again! His door was always open for a 2 minute or 30 minute chat about golf or life. He cares about his players and lets us all know he cares about us as people first and players second. “You are more than a scorecard” was a line we heard all the time and he really meant it. "

"As a former player, I was not one of the traveling players, in fact traveled very little during my time. He never recruited because the previous coach was let go, but he never made me feel like I wasn’t one of his players. He was always motivating, uplifting and encouraging me. In fact, he believed in me more than I did of myself some days. He still checks in with me from time to time after graduation and always thanks me for my time at JMU. Wouldn’t haven’t traded my experience for anything else. "

"Absolutely would recommend anyone’s child to play for him; cares beyond words for every player top to bottom. Meets with players a couple times a semester to talk about semester, year and lifelong goals. Helps them stay on top of their work outside of golf as well "

"I would never recommend Tommy Baker to be a coach for a Division 1 sport- or frankly any sport at all. He creates an awful environment that pits players against each other. His favoritism for certain players will always determine his choices for events- and there is nothing you can do about it. He absolutely will make you feel like you’re not valued as a student, an athlete, and sometimes even a human. I would say to never be under his guidance. There simply cannot be a worse coach than him. "
