"Reno is a solid football coach who has worked hard to get to where he is, but I feel he misses the mark in many areas. He doesn’t seem to have a strong connection with individual players, likely because he brings in so many recruits each year that it’s hard for him to relate on a personal level. When I first arrived at Yale, he seemed much more positive. However, even during winning seasons, he now appears consumed by negativity. The constant focus on past teams has become tiring—every year is different, and it’s more important to focus on building stronger relationships and staying connected through tough times. I also feel there’s a disconnect within the staff. Coach Reno seems intent on controlling every aspect of the program, but I’m not sure that’s what’s best. He could benefit from stepping back into more of a CEO role, returning to his earlier positivity, and trusting his staff to coach. While his structured approach has its strengths, it sometimes feels like the team is overworked and lacks the energy and excitement needed on game day. What I heard during the recruiting process about the program hasn’t matched my experience as a player. It feels like the focus is now solely on winning, with many promises left unfulfilled. Just a heads up, they can absolutely care less about school or you succeeding. Corino says it many times and he truly means it. School is a secondary piece playing football at Yale so you just need to know that as you come in. "

"Tony Reno is a good, but not great, football coach. He tends to be very transactional and inconsistent with his words. While he’s not a bad person, he struggles with knowing when to pull back. He is extremely regimented and has difficulty adapting to changes. His intensity with his coaching staff is noticeable and sometimes reflects negatively on their approach. The vibe with the program feels different compared to my first year at Yale. Back then, things seemed more relatable and positive. Some of the recent success appears to have affected him negatively. While I respect him as a coach, it’s clear that he doesn’t show much genuine interest in players beyond their performance on the field. He preaches family, but the program doesn’t feel particularly connected right now. My older brother played at Dartmouth and had a much more positive experience while also winning championships. It’s clear that at this level, there’s immense pressure on coaches to succeed, but from a player’s perspective, we just want a program that feels cohesive and supportive. One major issue is the frequent turnover among the coaching staff. It seems to stem from Reno’s coaching style, which creates a lack of continuity. We’ve lost some talented coaches in recent years, and it’s frustrating to see them leave because they’re seeking better environments. At the end of the day, it feels like Tony Reno is focused primarily on Tony Reno and winning football games. The rest — including player development and academics — feels secondary. This lack of connection is disappointing, especially for a program with such a rich history and tradition. While Reno has had some great seasons, they’ve often been followed by truly disappointing and losing ones. It’s frustrating that a program of this caliber hasn’t figured out how to build a stronger and more consistent culture. I think he needs to recalibrate a little bit and reflect on his style as he’s letting circumstances really control his mentality and that’s not really what made him a successful coach. He’s starting to lose his edge."

"He tries to be personable, sometimes he's better with certain players than others. But he's also a head coach and wants his players to do as told and understands the responsibility of his team doing well is on him. He probably has lied to most recruits bout what we get because it's yale but he's trying to get the best. Needs to work on efficiency."
