"Coach Seth is a fantastic coach that is way ahead of his time. He understands the game at a depth not many coaches or players have. That is also how there may be a disconnect. When Coach speaks about basketball sometimes it sounds like a foreign language.
Where Coach shines is off the court. Great conversations with all of us and really cares about the development of his players off the court."
"As my event coach, I can speak to the wonders of her leadership. She is passionate about the sport, dedicated to her athletes, and very knowledgeable. Fitness is important but she prepares you for the season. She is approachable and will be honest about anything you ask and cares about you in a holistic sense. "
"While not my event coach, through observation and conversations he had clear favorites within his training group. Had great athletes but took way too much credit for their accomplishments. He believed he knew more about the sport/event than he actually did. "
"Not my event coach but as the head coach was honest and direct in communication. From observation, was very encouraging with his athletes and made practice fun. "
"Azusa Pacific is a Christian university that makes you feel welcome. As an athlete, I knew I'd quickly find my place on the team. I met my family here."
"I didn't have the best experience at APU, but he is very knowledgeable in the multis and field events. He is old-fashioned, make sure to be ready for old-fashioned humor. He has a good heart, but you need to communicate your boundaries with him."
"Josh is a kind coach; however, other coaches have more expertise. He is still finding his way as a coach in the track world. Many of his athletes did exceptionally well due to his positive attitude and love."
"Good experience visiting, it is in a smaller town in southern california. Campus wise you can walk or ride anywhere. There is a train right next to campus and a campus trolley. This beind said, it is 30 minutes from LA and a 45 minute drive to basically anything outside. Campus is cute and quaint, with a fun pretty vibe. Coaches are good and professors are great. "
"It is a smaller DII University therefore you get what you pay for type of thing. It is a beautiful campus considering it is in the heart of southern California. This being said, areas could be improved like the weight room and more specifically the locker room. Can be an easy University to outgrow athletically. "
"She has no experience playing soccer herself, which I believe, really affected her coaching, negatively. She played favorites and overall just wasn’t knowledgeable about the game. She cared more about going on hikes or traveling than the actual team or practicing to prepare us for the game. She also was extremely awkward. "
"No one will argue that his hockey knowledge is far superior, but the issue lies with his coaching in a game setting. He needs to make a better effort bringing everyone together to rock the rink. He's been around a long time though so not sure that will ever change."
"The team went from 50+ rowers my freshman year to barely enough to compete at Patriots by my senior year. Patrick does not have adequate knowledge of the sport or coaching skills in general. Most of the people who continue are novices who have not experienced rowing in any other form and don't see that he is not coaching effectively. "
"Played favorites. Awesome practices and extremely technically aware but too young to successfully coach during games. Evident in current record. Immature in dealing with adversity. Removed returning players who expressed concern with bullying etc. instead of listening/working with them. "
"Coach Van Buskirk is by far the most hockey knowledgable coach I have had. He is a true student of the game, and his passion for the nuances of the game is infectious. This also means he can talk for hours about it. If you love the game, his passion will only bring the best out of you."
"Most upfront, honest, caring, in your face kind of coach you'd ever meet. Loves the sport and his athletes. But a man of God as well, which is definitely what separates him from the rest. Warriorman. "
"Coach Kavanagh is, overall, a well-meaning coach who is limited by his lack of event-specific coaching knowledge, poor communication of general information and ineffective recruiting practices. His background as a thrower means that many of his workouts consist of repeat intervals of the same length and that his coaching strategies are aimed at consistently increasing the overall intensity of training rather than having a training schedule targeted at higher intensity workouts and recovery days."
"Have never felt more mistreated or depersonalized by a coach inmy life. Not only is he unwilling to make changes to the lineup, when asked why a player isn't getting ice time he has no constructive criticism and portrays that there is not possibility to break into the line up regardless of performance."
"Patrick has an unfortunate tendency to play favorites with athletes, based on personality rather than performance. Those he likes will get the coaching and attention they need to eventually perform well while those who he doesn't like, don't. He pretends to listen to athlete concerns in individuals meetings but when it comes to actually making changes when athletes have concerns, forget it because it's his way or the highway. He is stuck in training methods that are inefficient as well."
"Patrick is incredibly knowledgeable about the sport of rowing, and puts time and effort into understanding what makes the boats go fastest. He expects the best of his team--he insists upon perfection from his rowers, which results in a highly focused team with long-term goals. Although people have had issues with his communication, he is dedicated to the overall well-being of each of his rowers. His coaching focuses on the basics, which leads to boats that row efficiently and effectively."
"I have been injured all season and Patrick did not make much of an effort to stay connected; he barely even said hi or asked how school was going. Overall I think he means well, but has not done a good job of effectively implementing his plans. We have a lot of injured people on the team from erging every day during winter training, however he continues to believe that erging is the best thing to stay in shape. He refuses to compromise on cross training. I believe he has potential but needs work"
"He can talk a ton, and sometimes it can get tedious, but the guy really knows his stuff. Been around forever so has a ton of knowledge. Doesn't play favorites but if someone has more skill or works harder they'll get more playing time, simple as that. Nicest guy and super flexible when it comes to academics."
"Coach Lincoln is one of the worst coaches I have ever experienced. She is mentally abusive, she lies to her players and gives them false hope, she plays favorites, she does not give helpful feedback, she does not know the game of soccer well enough to be coaching at this level, and she is a hypocrite. If her team had different coaches, they would be the best in their conference and most likely make it very far in post-season competitions. I would not recommend this school to any incoming freshman purely based off of Coach Lincoln and the negative effect she has had on so many of her players."
