"Claiming he was fostering a competitive environment, but only created an uncomfortable, anxiety filled, and damaging environment, ruining many swimmers love for the sport, including mine. I was consistently put down by him and the team he created. He does not treat his men and woman’s teams equally, favoring the men’s heavily, practices catered towards the men’s team only. He has a very large ego which causes his to be blind to the mistakes me has made and refuses to fix them. Smith claims to support athletes with mental heath issues, but only has punished them by removing them from travel meets and from practices. He does not support individual athletes, unless favored by him, at all. His coaching style was average at best, little knowledge on new techniques. Only looked to increase physical strength rather than improve technique in order to improve times. Often blames the athlete for not improving instead of looking at what he could change for practices to cater to their needs."
"Honestly just an awful coach. I played lacrosse my entire life for an amazing competitive high school program with coaches who were stars at schools like Syracuse. But I immediately lost the love I had for the game the second I went to Binghamton, and got so unmotivated I left lol. No hate but please like if anyone sees this who's interested, please go somewhere else, I would feel awful for you to feel the way I felt. The assistance are chill tho"
"Despite what I saw from the coaches I loved the team so much and they were so welcoming that I still chose to come to Binghamton despite the warnings about the coaches from my parents. The team was funny and inclusive and that drew me in."
"From what my daughter has told me, and from what I've seen on the field Coach Allen knows little about lacrosse and little about how to care for players"
"Awful, doesn't treat all her players with equal respect. Isn't educated with the new world of lacrosse. Pushes players to exhaustion, causing them to get hurt. Would NOT recommend."
"Awful coach, has no knowledge about lacrosse, and doesn't understand how the game is evolving. Thinks her opinions are right and no one else's. Acts caring when you get recruited but really doesn't care about you. Forces injured people to play, and doesn't give everyone an equal opportunity. DON'T chose her as your coach!!!!"
"I wish I had seen these reviews a few years ago.
One of the worst managers I have had the misfortune to know. Has no clue about the game, and absolutely no clue how to manage young people. Gives zero support or encouragement.
How can a coach with such a poor record and reputation remain in his position for 20 years+?"
"Very nice man and definitely cares about his players but has a tendency to kill girls confidence and be stubborn. Games clearly need adjustments and a change of pace and he’s stuck on the same line up no matter how hard you prove yourself. If I could do it over, I would definitely give other coaches a chance at other schools. "
"Only cares about himself and his reputation. Cares for men's team more than women's team since they are like his "sons" because he recruited the first group of men when they were reinstated and treats the women with disrespect unless they are his puppet and don't do anything wrong. He says failing is a part of life, but you can't fail when it is under his watch or time or energy. Does not communicate news or update in a timely manner and expects everyone to be on time for things / remember his 5 page emails word for word. He also says beginning of every year that the team as a whole will work on starts with each other / with the coaches once a week, that does not happen until 3 days before team departs for conference. Just saying, don't swim or dive under him unless you can win conference. "
"This woman is dishonest. She will put on a show like she is a caring, motherly individual that will support your child, but in reality, she will mentally break them down. Perhaps it's changed since they are on a 41-match losing streak(how is it possible to coach a program into the ground that badly at a prestigious University); she doesn’t care anymore. A deeply troubled human being with lots of issues shouldn’t be coaching, let all be around impressionable young women "
"OUTSTANDING COACH (AND STAFF) WHO HAS TRANSFORMED THE BU MBB PROGRAM IN A VERY SHORT TIME. FIRM BUT FAIR, INCREDIBLY HUMBLE, TERRIFIC LEADER WHO SETS HIGH STANDARDS AND HOLDS ALL ACCOUNTABLE."
"There are some great trails around campus and the tracks are nice. The gym itself isn’t amazing but gets the job done for a runner. Has everything I need. "
"Broken promises
Made my son feel uncomfortable when it came to scholarship money
Played him and berated him terribly
Not a positive thinking coach
Made him quit the game he loved to play
Just about all the players in his recruiting class quit
Worst coach he ever played for."
"Kyle is an awesome coach. As he took on the position of head coach, there was an immediate culture shift for the program, towards positive attitudes and belief in ourselves."
"Coach Allen is very kind off the field but lacks the ability to successfully lead a team. Her lack of knowledge is reflected by her players and the team record each year. She fails to coach each player in a way that they can find success. During recruiting she lied about team facilities and her demeanor changes when you arrive as a player."
"If this man is your coach you should probably transfer. He has a massive Napoleon complex and lacks the ability to lead a division 1 program. He has the brain intelligence of a 6 year old boy and although he brags about his expertise, he shows no experience in dealing with the physical, emotional and mental health of his athletes."
"Brad truly transformed the Binghamton program over his five years as a coach. The team improved in the classroom and the men we added to the America East conference. But, he has trouble connecting with his swimmers and managing his time. Many swimmers did not have much respect for him and it was hard to have a conversation with him."
"She is a very nice person off the field but on the field her thoughts get lost in translation with her lack of clarity and understanding of new approaches to lacrosse."
"I have had the pleasure of having Coach Ord as my head coach for one year. She is tremendous. She is very knowledgeable about the game of basketball. But she is an even better person. "
"She is pretty knowledge about the sport but she is just very unwilling to evolve with the sport. She is also obviously biased towards certain players. If you aren't a starter you really have to work a hundred times harder then a starter just to get your foot in the door."
"Coach Allen is a very kind woman, but lacks in knowledge of lacrosse. She also recruits under the pretenses that school comes first, when in fact she prioritizes practice/lifts/etc. over being on time to class. "
"I think he has definitely changed the program for the better since he's been here. Some think he is unapproachable at first, but once you get to know him, you can tell that he loves and cares about every single one of his players. Definitely has your back. Super strict about certain things that some people might not be used to. "
"Graduating from Binghamton, Coach McKeown has a great passion for the sport as well as for the school itself. He cares for each player on the team and is very knowledgeable of the sport. In past years, he hasn't had much help in the assistant coach positions and past records don't correctly display the skills of the teams with lower records."
"Overall, I had a very great experience with Brad as my coach. He was a very caring individual when it came to our success in and out of the pool. I believe his success as a coach speaks for himself, considering Binghamton Univ. men's team had the 6th highest GPA in the country last year and performed well at Championships. "
"Coach Cummiskey might be the best coach I have ever had. He knows what he's doing every time he coaches us and only aims at making everyone better. Of course, all coaches have the same goal. However, he doesn't give any filler sets. Everything has purpose."
"Terrible coach. Hard to approach, not easy to talk to, very stubborn. Only knows the game through the book, no natural knowing of the game, no outside the box thinking. Will not help you in tough times. Will not try to give you positive feedback to help build your confidence. Only breaks you down. "
"Coach Allen has a lot of passion for the game of lacrosse. However, I fear that Allen has been out of the game to long and does not know how to adapt to in game situations to win. Many 1 goal losses have proved this true. When you ask what you could do to get better she more focuses on what you do well instead of answering your question."
"Very realistic and honest and that's what I love about her. She knows not to push too hard when you're having an off day, is flexible, and is pretty approachable when you have questions on your training. Really glad I picked this school with her as the coach!"
"Brad Smith has the intelligence of a fully grown, if that, squirrel. He has a horrible case of Napeolan's Complex and can't let the fact that he is an angry little man go. A golden retriever could do a better job of managing a d1 team. "
"This man is the worst coach I have ever experienced in my entire life. My love for swimming went completely away once this man began coaching me. I was a student athlete struggling with my mental health and I reached out to him for help, and he told me to quit and get a therapist! He is unqualified, unintelligent, rude. "
"Takes the game seriously, passive aggressive and has trouble conveying thoughts at times, will give you a chance and if you work hard you usually will get a chance. Unless you suck "
"Highly motivated and passionate coach. A caring individual which has made great strides to improve each and every year of his coaching career; distinctly in his coaching style, accountability, and communication. He has facilitated many personal bests from individuals and multiple team records. Currently has accepted a position at Youngstown State."
"Brad is a great guy with awesome intentions, he really genuinely cares about his swimmers on both an individual and athletic level. He is receptive if you make the time to sit down talk with him. That being said, his knowledge of the sport is terrible. I found severe regression in my time with him as my coach, and found his practices disappointing."
"A handful of lucky people find swimming success under this coach, but most people will only see "college bests" at most or end their careers not seeing any favorable times. Has very little knowledge of what it takes to be a coach at the D1 level, and he demands respect instead of earning it. If you can learn how to work around him, he is bearable. "
"Struggles with team management, doesn't do well with keeping track of splits and times. Overall not a bad guy but not a good coach. Acts like he is open to critiques but will ultimately ignore or forget almost all of them. I was disappointed overall that my college swimming experience had to be with him as my coach."
"Found another head coach position at Youngstown State in Ohio. Very accessible and a great guy overall. Always looking out for his athletes and accommodating. Not the most knowledgable"
"Cares for his players. Has transformed the program since arriving. Demanding at times but that is a good thing. Has a vision in mind and steps on how to do it. Well spoken and knows balance of academic demands. Didn't find him approachable at first but now I do."
"Brad has good intentions but doesn't have the intelligence to follow up on them. He is a solid swim coach but is awkward to be around to the point where people try to avoid him at all costs. He has lied to people about receiving scholarship money and is so focused on being loved by the team that he does not want to be their coach. Unliked by team."
"Very much cares about the team and I've heard that he has improved over time. I disagree with the level of competition being lowered to boost in season results because it's not accurately showing improvement by facing weaker teams. Needs to be more innovative in his distance training. The sport has evolved beyond pure yardage for certain events."
"Has no idea what he is doing. Only cares about the team as a whole and winning meets. Has no individual connection unless you are one of his favorites. Does not listen to anything his athletes have to say. Rather than fixing problems, most of the time he makes them worse. Blames others for his mistakes and can never take responsibility for his own."
"Unfortunately I believe the BUSD is being led to Elysian fields under Smiths coaching. Instead of actually improving the team, the caliber of competition is being diluted to give the illusion of growth and progress. As it stands now it is unlikely you would grow as a swimmer here. This hire is similar to others made by Binghamton AD Pat Elliot"
"Has transformed into a completely reliable, motivational, and caring coach. Shows interest in the swimmers as well as always improving the dynamic of the team."
"Reading previous reviews about Brad was really upsetting. He has dramatically changed his coaching style, approachability and knowledge. He is a great, personable coach and cares about his swimmers more than anything else. He has done great things for this program and will continue to improve both the program and his swimmers. Brad is a great coach"
"Has absolutely zero idea how to run a team. Can not remember times or events at all. Was very frustrated with his coaching etiquette the entire time. Don't expect to improve."
"Coach Sinicki not only affected my life in a positive manner on the field, but also off the field. He served as a quality role model and leader, teaching me not only the game of baseball, but also the game of life. He was very honest and upfront during the recruiting process and was very fair and equal with playing time and opportunities to show your abilities and to crack the starting line-up throughout the full calendar year. I would highly recommend him and the Binghamton Baseball program."
"Picks favourites. If you aren't an favourite she might even kick you off the team. Emotionally abusive and plays with your head. Sabotages those who transfer. "
"For starters, he is so awkward to be around you become uncomfortable. He has no real knowledge of swimming or diving. Always brags about his worldly knowledge of things such as “nutrition, mental health, or equality,” but in fact has no real knowledge on the topics. Has different relationships between men and women on the team, and men are often referred to as his “sons,” and women are too emotional. The pressure he puts on his athletes to preform is unimaginable and when you show a sliver of “weakness” he preys on you. Would never ever recommend him to anyone. Made me completely lose my love for the sport….Run"
