"The worst coach I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. An emotionally abusive, out of touch, dishonest person who is a subpar leader and terrible communicator. Her behavior in my time at Bowdoin was unacceptable and the fact she is still a coach at a prestigious institution is laughable. Do not send your daughter to Bowdoin to play under Grote, and if she’s there right now, check in on her. "
"I am so happy I chose Bowdoin College. Coach Cady is exactly what she appeared to be during recruiting and after years of playing for challenging coaches, I am so relieved that I chose to play for her. She is very transparent, has an open door policy, and will be honest about her expectations and why she makes the playing decisions she does. She is always encouraging and doesn't get angry in games. She demands respect and uses her great volleyball knowledge to educate, teach, and celebrate us as players. We also have the best team culture because of her where teammates encourage each other and do not talk negatively about each other. Bowdoin volleyball is truly a unique college volleyball program with demonstrated success because of what Coach Cady has established at Bowdoin."
"One of the worst coaches I have ever had. Truly terrible. Mean, a bully, teams up against players at individual meetings, and lacks intelligence, especially emotional intelligence. I love Bowdoin, and Liz is not Bowdoin. Liz lacks the capacity for concern over well-being, she has no concern for mental health, she prioritizes her agenda, disguising it as "what is best for the team," and if the record shows anything, she has not been best for the team. I hope she never coaches anyone else again, for everyone's sake. "
"Liz is an exceptional person and coach. She is fair, compassionate and competitive! She wants student-athletes to grow as players and people! she truly believes in coaching the whole person to be the best athlete, player, and student while developing leadership skills and quality character traits. "
"Horrific coach. Self-centered, practices favoritism, and brings her home life to practice. Grote’s 10 year lacrosse record speaks for itself. Don’t get yourself stuck in Maine with the coach from hell!"
"Come to Bowdoin for your education. Absolutely not for this coach. Knowledgeable about the game though awkward, favorites players, and does not have concern of her team’s culture which ultimately translates to poor team performance. This is reflective of team performances "
"Coach Archbell is a great coach all around. Could improve his personal connection-making with players, but he is working on it actively and even with that being said, it is very clear to everyone that he cares about our team/the guys on it more than anything. I saw he and his wife hammering ice on the field so we could practice many times. "
"Without a doubt, she is the best coach I have ever had in my 10+ years of high school, club, and collegiate volleyball. She commands respect without having to try, and the team has full faith in her and her coaching decisions. She has been an amazing role model and I feel so fortunate to be one of her players. "
"loves all of us like her daughters. i grew tremendously under liz as an athlete and a person. her biggest weakness is communication of what she wants from individuals but if you ask her directly she will tell you and not be weird about it. as a player you just need to get comfortable doing that which is an important skill to learn anyway. "
"I respect my coach as a person because she does care and is nice. But, on the soccer end of things, she was clueless. Would be better serving an AD position at a school. Her lack of soccer knowledge has clearly hurt the program. What was once a strong NESCAC and NCAA contender is now a poorly performing team, which their recent records indicate."
"Brad is one of the best coaches I've ever had the pleasure of training under. The amount of gratitude for him is indescribable. He is thoughtful, meticulous, and truly cares about his athletes."
"- not the best tennis advice - too much pressure on players - has favorites - not supportive of school - has moments of kindness, but not a good guy at end of day. Gives up on players and takes the love of tennis away. - deceitful and not always honest to face - not smart about fitness"
"Coach Archbell is an outstanding resource on the defensive end and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to that side of the field. On offense he is a bit behind but Coach Silberlicht perfectly makes up for that. Coach Archbell has not always been that easy to relate to but in the time I've spent with him it is easy to see he has been making strides to become much more relateable- something that has helped the team overall over the last few years."
"My coach's lack of soccer knowledge is baffling. Without getting into specifics, she does not watch game, does not know what to do in any situation, and does not know how to substitute properly. She should at best, be coaching for a middle school level team. I would like this response to remain anonymous in regards to Bowdoin Soccer, but she is the worst coach I have ever had to play under. I will be happy to be done."
