"Shannon was terrible as my coach. She would try to be "cool" with all the players and would try too hard to seem like she is popular. It was pretty sad actually that a coach acts the way she does. She should focus more on coaching and less on trying to seem cool and befriend all the players. "
"She is arrogant, annoying and most of us would not want her as our coach. She thinks she is better than everyone else and can be miserable to work with and have as your coach."
"Positive and cohesive team culture is a priority to Coach Santiago. He genuinely cares about his athletes and works to help them develop on and off the court. He is respectful to his athletes and exhibits excellent character at all times. A model coach! A great experience playing for him and his staff. I would highly recommend playing for Coach Santiago!"
"Honestly astonishing that he was Columbia’s coach. Never met a more incompetent man in my life. If someone made a documentary of his coaching, people would say it was was scripted and too far fetched. If you took someone off the street and gave them a 2 week run down on rowing, they would do a better job. I had high school novice assistant coaches with more knowledge of the sport."
"Horrible coach, definitely has favorites. Those who are not his favorites barely exist to him. Continues to lose every game while keeping the same formation and main players. A paranoid, racist and verbally abusive coach, this guy and his puppet assistant should have been fired years ago."
"Played under her at a showcase. She was cold and intense but knew what she was doing. Doesn't put up with bullshit but will be honest with you and help you if you're honest with her. "
"Columbia recently renovated new facilities for the women's soccer team near the competition field. This building is insanely nice and cool. However, the worst aspect of their women's soccer facilities is how far off campus they are. You absolutely have to shuttle to and from these fields. The quality of their turf field is not super great, but the new facilities definitely bump up the rating."
"I personally loved Coach Smith. She truly cares about her players and their well being. My freshman year we would have weekly check ins to ensure you were adjusting well to college and handling everything well emotionally, mentally, and in the classroom. She did struggle to keep the team culture and team environment in good condition, but one on one if you build a relationship with her she will always have your back. A little goofy at times, and not the most organized but I liked her. "
"I think I speak for everyone when I say that I have never met someone as kindhearted and inspirational as Michael. He’s an amazing motivator and treats everyone of his athletes, current or graduated, like family. He would do anything to help his athletes, and provides us with the skills to succeed both on and off the strip. "
"Scott was generally a disorganized coach who was not very knowledgeable about training for athletics let alone rowing. Before practice sessions when asked what the plan was, he admitted he didn't have one and that he would "shoot from the hip." Not very motivational or inspiring, Scott seemed more concerned with not rocking the boat."
"He is a CEO style coach. Focuses less on the X's and O's and is more interested in making connections with alumni and donors. He does put together a great team of assistant coaches, especially defensively as he is a conservative, defensive-minded coach. The coaches he brings on the team buy in to his program, sometimes to a fault. "
"Is not very genuine or honest. Manipulates her players to benefit her self and glories the players on the team that bring down the team. These players bully and cause unnecessary drama on the team, preventing the team from being it's best."
"Coach Bags is more of a CEO than a head football coach. I love how he runs the program and he definitely knows how to put people in the postions to win games. His hands on football coaching is average. But he can recruit and he can hire great coaches. "
"Knows how to win games and is great at structuring an organization. Not all that personable of a coach. Doesn't have much of a relationship with his players."
"Kevin is a good guy. He cares about his players and wants the best for the team. He does tend to have favorites sometimes though which can skew how you view some decisions."
"Michael cares about our team more than anyone. He is always there when I need something, whether it be a tutor, funding, or access to our athletic department resources, he has never let me down. Mike's dedication and passion for the sport as well as Columbia Fencing is undeniable; he puts 110% effort into his team no matter what. I would not have the incredible opportunities I have at Columbia if it weren't for him, so for that I am forever grateful."
"Jim Bolster is one of the most inspirational human beings I know. His ability to out-coach is unparalleled in the Ivy League, and he interacts and connects with every single one of his swimmers on a personal level, and is always able to give constructive feedback. Although his decision-making at times may seem strange, it almost always results in a positive outcome."
