"This program destroyed my mental health more than it ever built me up as an athlete. Alex constantly blames players for the problems within the program while using “mental health” conversations as a way to manipulate, twist your words, and put you down. Instead of supporting athletes, those conversations leave you feeling like you are the issue every single time. In the last 6 years alone, she has reportedly been “investigated” at least 3 times, yet nothing ever changes. The administration continues to protect the program instead of addressing the damage being done to players. The positive reviews feel completely fake and forced. Reviews are literally seen printed out on the athletic director’s desk, and suddenly the next day positive reviews appear online to bury the negative ones and cover up issues the school clearly does not want to deal with. When over 20 girls quit the program and the response is that it’s somehow a reflection of the players themselves, that only proves everyone’s point further. Numbers are facts. That many athletes do not walk away from a healthy environment for no reason. The environment Alex creates, fosters, and the school administration allows further proves they do not value their athletes as people, only as replaceable. What makes it even worse is that because Alex works in mental health, she knows exactly how to use her words to manipulate conversations and constantly twist yours until you feel like you are the problem. This was the worst experience I have ever had in sports and something I will carry with me long after softball."

"One of the hardest parts about this experience was realizing the issue went beyond just one coach. When multiple athletes continuously speak up about feeling unsupported, fearful, or emotionally drained, and nothing changes, it creates the message that player wellbeing matters less than protecting a program’s image. Over time, that silence becomes part of the culture itself. College athletics are supposed to develop confidence, leadership, and passion for the game. Instead, many players left feeling disconnected from a sport they once loved. That should concern any school that truly values its athletes."

"Over the past several years, the same concerns about Curry softball and Coach Alex Campione have been raised repeatedly by athletes, parents, and former players. Different people, from different graduating classes and experiences, continue describing the same environment: fear-based coaching, manipulation, favoritism, emotional exhaustion, and players losing their love for the game. More than 20 athletes have reportedly transferred, quit, or mentally checked out of the program during her tenure. At some point, that stops being a coincidence or a “playing time issue” and becomes a reflection of the culture surrounding the program itself. College athletics are supposed to challenge athletes while also helping them grow with confidence, support, and respect. Many former players instead describe leaving anxious, defeated, and emotionally drained. What also stands out is the complete lack of accountability despite repeated complaints being brought to administration. Multiple players have stated they spoke up asking for help, yet nothing meaningfully changed. A program should never make athletes feel ignored or disposable. At the end of the day, results matter too. The program has struggled competitively for years while also facing ongoing concerns about culture and player well-being. When both the on-field results and player experiences point in the same direction, it becomes clear this is not simply a few disgruntled athletes. It is a pattern that deserves to be taken seriously."

"Regardless of all the known issues with mental health, Players and coaches leaving the program, and a severe lack of recruiting you can’t hide from the inability to compete in conference. Multiple last place seasons in conference. Single digit wins in conference and NO PLAYOFF APPEARENCES. Consistently out coached and unable to adjust in game or adjust approach from season to season. We should never minimize clear manipulative coaching and serious mental heath concerns (from a supposed Mental Health professional) and how they impact the players but the softball results speak for themself. Clear underperformance and no accountability. This is college sports you better have a great culture or be winning. This program has neither. "

"Coach Alex is the best coach I have had so far. "20+ girls quitting" is a reflection of themselves, not having playing time, and the negative people that they surround themselves with. Coach Alex had structured practices everyday and made roles clear. Open office hours if you ever had an issue and was an open person to talk to. Some people just don't like the truth and can't handle not being coached by their parents anymore. Mental abuse but forgets to mention playing games at practice for cool prizes such as Stanleys, going on a team camping trip, and being taken out for ice cream on her own free will. Stop always blaming external factors. The time you have on the field is what you make of it. Negative mindset will give you a negative life. "

"If you’re considering Curry for athletics, look elsewhere. The reason I say this is because I played four years for Alex and she made my life miserable. But she’s not the problem, Vinny the A.D. is . 95% of Curry’s sports are terrible. The only sport we were any good in was hockey . He continues to hire coaches like Alex who don’t know what they’re doing and are more about abusing their players than winning. Don’t get sucked in like I did, because they know once you’re there ,especially for a year or two hoping things are going to get better that you’re not going transfer. You made friends and you like your teachers and you don’t want to have to start over somewhere else . That’s what they’re counting on. At Curry it’s about getting your tuition dollars and not about you ,your well-being and especially your mental health , trust me I complained and they ignored me. Don’t make the same mistake I did and have a bad coach and program turn something you grew up loving into something you now hate ! "

"Coach Alex Campione has destroyed the experience of playing softball for many girls at Curry College, myself included. In only six years, more than 20 players have either left the program, lost their love for the sport, or struggled mentally because of the environment she created. Her coaching style is built around fear, humiliation, and making players uncomfortable instead of helping them grow as athletes or people. What’s even more frustrating is that players have repeatedly tried to speak up. At least a dozen girls have gone to the athletic department asking for help and trying to bring attention to what was happening, yet nothing ever changes. It feels like the administration would rather protect a coach than listen to the athletes being affected by her behavior. No athlete should leave college sports feeling emotionally drained, anxious, or pushed away from a game they once loved. But that is exactly what has happened to so many girls in this program. The people responsible for protecting student athletes have failed to do so, and players continue paying the price for it. On top of all of this, the program has consistently struggled competitively. There has been no real accountability for the losing culture or the impact this environment has had on athletes. Curry softball players deserved support, leadership, and respect, and many of us never received that. Protect yourself and your love of the game, and do not come here. I wish someone had told me that before it was too late. "

"I have had Coach Alex for years now and she has made me a better person and player. She does not just care about athletic performance but about you as a person. I have grown to love the game more than I did before because of the environment she creates. I have always admired the way the coaching staff outlines roles and structure through team mottos and themes. Any negativity that is written about the program usually stems from personal issues with playing time or individuals not liking their specific roles. The CNE is a very tough conference and Coach Alex puts out the best nine to compete while readily pulling from the bench when needed. Like on any other team people leave and Coach Alex has always handled those situations promptly and professionally despite the circumstances players put her in. Practices are a great mix of high reps and broken down skill sets in both hitting and fielding. She goes above and beyond by being available for office hours or individual hitting sessions whenever we need the extra work. Team culture is a priority and that is clear from the team camping trip to dinners at the coaches house. "

"I have been a current player for Coach Alex and her staff at Curry for a few years now. Coach Alex has been nothing but dedicated and supportive for all of her players. She cares about each person more than just themselves as an athlete. Coach Alex has elevated my game and experience at Curry. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't be the player or person I am. She has taught me countless lessons that I will take with me on and off the field. I have always felt valued and important as an athlete and a student. She has always worked with me when it came to injuries or school and always made efforts to get to know each and every player on the team. Coach Alex goes out of her way to build relationships with every player on the team and creates a family-like atmosphere where everyone feels included and supported. Her communication, organization, professionalism, and consistency set a strong example for all of us every single day. She leads with passion and dedication and it is clear how much she truly cares about the program and the people in it. "She has been a great coach to me! I have played for her the last few years here at Curry! As a player we should expect our coach to be tough on us and want us to get better everyday. That is how Coach Alex is, she is always making competitive practices and pushing us to be the best we can be. Our program has improved a lot these last few years and it starts from her. She pushes us to talk about our goals, values, and how we want our teammates and coaches to support us. I appreciate how she stay positive, push us to do our best, and support us both on and off the field. She is very personable and cares about your success not only on the field but in the classroom. "Playing for Alex Campione was the worst part of my experience at Curry. From her first to current year as the coach, there has been an estimate of 19 players who have transferred or left the team. Administration has done nothing about this, even after many of current and past players have brought a multitude of issues to their attention. She is manipulative, a gaslighter, and inconsiderate human being. She fat shames, promotes unfair expectations for each player, cusses and throws equipment due to poor performance, creates an anxiety inducing environment with poor team culture and cannot take accountability for any of these actions. Coaching is the first aspect to having a competitive team, and unfortunately as long as she is the coach, that will never happen here at Curry. "

"Her record says it all. She’s been coaching for 10 years and has never had a winning team. Her overall record is 103-213. That’s a 33% winning percentage. The only reason she was able to get to 100 wins was because she was fortunate enough to have a girl J.R. who carried the team for four years on the mound and at the plate otherwise she would’ve been lucky to get fifty wins in her career. She brought in a new assistant this year, a former player who was as toxic as her. Gaslighted and bullied many players over her time at Curry mostly at Alex’s direction. One would hope that after six seasons of all the losing and drama that has occurred under her tenure that the Curry hierarchy would have enough sense to not bring her back for a seventh. "

"Based on my experience, I would strongly advise anyone considering this softball program to think twice before committing. The culture within the team felt deeply unhealthy, and many of the issues seemed rooted in both the team leadership and the head coach. Negative, toxic, and at times cruel behavior was allowed to continue without meaningful accountability, which created an environment that did not feel supportive or safe for players. A program’s culture starts at the top, and in my experience, the standards being set did not promote respect, growth, or team unity. For anyone looking for a positive and healthy college softball experience, I would strongly recommend exploring other options."
