"Too intense. He didn’t care about me as an individual. He was selfish and didn’t help me grow when I was struggling. He pitted players against one another, and created animosity among us. Causing us to despise the sport "
"Classic example of ‘mean girl’; has no idea about coaching women’s tennis; intentionally tries to pit girls against each other to foster drama; plays favorites; seemingly has joined the ‘pay to play’ club, meaning if you are a hefty donor then you can play in the line up regardless of accomplishments or ability; allows inappropriate relationships b/w students and coaches; and the list goes on…"
"Do NOT trust your daughter to this coach. She will ruin all of the hard work and dedication your child has endured before getting to college. She is emotionally abusive, encourages the girls to tell on each other and creates a terrible “team” environment. "
"Coach McDowell makes sure that her players and coaching staff are always treated with respect. She is a tough coach at times but the success of the program each year is almost guaranteed. She values who her players are as people and makes time for them to be successful academically and athletically. "
"Coach Shannon plays favorites and selects a group of players to put time and interest into. She wants her players to be all in and intense, although, practices are low key and not challenging. She has knowledge about hitting but is limited to that. Assistant coach is not helpful. She also creates a dramatic and ineffective competitive atmosphere. "
"Absolutely love coach shannon, she makes softball fun but intense. She cares a lot about being a family and she cares about her players. Very easy to talk to and makes you feel at home. "
"One of the best coaches I've ever had any level. Truly the definition of a players coach but still makes sure to work the guys on the team to their limit. Maximizes the potential of every player on the team through hard work and commitment to the program."
"He employs a very direct coaching method, he will facilitate learning and yell at us in practice but during a game he lets the players do the talking. Also he is accessible to players and actually makes the game still fun to play - which is much harder to do as a coach at the college level. Definitely recommend playing under him."
