"I will admit that he knew everything there was to know about softball. His knowledge of the game was never the issue. The issue was the way he chose to treat the people who were supposed to learn from him, trust him, and grow under his leadership. The way he treated his players, his assistants, and anyone he viewed as “less than” him statistically was unacceptable. Being around him came with a constant weight that was impossible to explain to anyone who wasn’t there. The mental and verbal abuse that happened day after day was unfathomable. It wasn’t just yelling. It was the constant criticism. The humiliation. The belittling. The feeling that no matter how hard you worked, it would never be enough. It was watching people who once loved this game slowly lose pieces of themselves because they were made to feel like their worth was dependent on how well they performed. Softball is supposed to teach you discipline, resilience, accountability, teamwork, and how to pick your teammates up when they fall. It is not supposed to teach you to be afraid of making a mistake. It is not supposed to make you question your worth. And it certainly should never make you feel like you have to sacrifice your mental well-being just to prove that you deserve to be there. The hardest part is knowing how many people walked away carrying things they never should have had to carry. People who came in with dreams, confidence, and a love for the game, only to leave questioning themselves. A coach can know every statistic, every strategy, every situation the game can throw at you. But none of that matters if you forget that the people standing on the field are human beings. Winning games does not excuse breaking people. And no amount of knowledge about softball will ever justify the way people were treated"

"He abused us, verbally, mentally, physically. He was breaking the rules on practice times. He would call us names. He would push and destroy team materials. He would take away our gear and make us “earn it back” for making a mistake. He ruined the entire game of softball."
