"This coach is all talk. He will lie to you about scholarship, playing time, and your worth on the team. He loves to pick his favorites on the team and will pick his people who he dislikes the most and make it known during practice as he constantly picks on the same people. His favorites never get criticized as they can do no wrong. It doesn’t matter if they show up late constantly, aren’t doing things apart of the team and have bad attitudes, they will receiver no punishment and will leave it up to the captains to do something about it as Shumate is very scared of confrontation and is a soft minded individual. "

"Coach Shumate is not very good. He is a good recruiter, but when you egt there, you never know if he's going to like you or not. Me and my teammates know who is on the good list and its usually guys from good schools or good colleges or have money. Some guys get yelled at for stuff that other guys don't. One day coach will be nice to you and then the next day or game day he will yell at you in front of the team for something you did but not yell at other gusy for the same things. Most of the time you don't even know what you did wrong when you get benched. There is always one or two guys he sticks on the bench for messing up in practice or in a game for small things but then lets other guys get away with all kinds of mess ups because he thinks they are good. I do not recommend playing for Shumate. Team culture was bad when I was there too."

"Simply, just another employee for the school. Quantity guy, more worried about school admin and his personal optics vs the team.. Very little to no growth or development of players. Old school Car salesmen based out of an old car dealership."

"Coach Maddie created this program from the ground up. She had a vision, raised the funds, hired a coach and rowed for Gordon before becoming coach. She has since expanded the program to involve a learn to row programs, juniors program and masters program. She knows which athletes will succeed in which regattas and creates opportunities for positive experiences in the water. She invests as much into the soul of her athletes if not more than she does their athletic performances."

"Although knowledgeable, Megan is unprofessional, plays favorites, and treats players incredibly poorly. She accuses players of things that are not true and gives them no choice but to quit or be kicked off the team. She does a poor job of cultivating a positive team environment. She is too intense and does not know how to lose gracefully. "
