"Team loses because the coach doesn’t want to make any changes when the game is not going their way. Not sure if he likes losing or is just oblivious to what’s happening infront of him."
"The coaches need to put the best players on the field. Two previous players have come to me to complain about this recently. I am sure there are more. Beware.
"
"She actually might be the worst coach ever on this earth. Imagine a rec soccer coach that just goes on YouTube to look up drills and uses the same ones over and over. Then combine it with someone who does not know soccer enough so your questions are answered with vague answers that you just want to hear. You really wonder how she got this job over other coaches and why hood college only hires young inexperienced coaches, but says a lot about Hood College AD as a whole. Way to ruin the Hood reputation Molly! "
"Molly ruined my love for the game, I had to quit my senior year for my own well being. I loved the girls on the team but I couldn’t stand her. She had favorites, said one thing and did the other, did the same drills at every practice, and never gave us any off days due to scheduling team bonding on days we had off. I have never experienced this poor of coaching and she is dishonest to her players. I feel bad for the girls who are still on the team that love the game but it’s being taken away by her."
"As somebody who has seen multiple coaches over the years, I’m highly disappointed in Hood for hiring somebody like Molly. She appears to not have the proper experience working with girls at the college level. It is so unfortunate to watch a game over the last several years and know that, the performance of the girls, who give all they can to the game, and only get yelled, at criticized, and beat down because they lose, but she doesn’t take responsibility for her part that she played in that loss. There is favoritism going on, rejection of quality skills in girls on the bench and disappointment where these girls should be having the time of their life, playing a sport that they truly love. Unless Hood does something to change I don’t think a soccer program will continue for girls at this school."
"As an athlete who plays for Molly, I can assure you that playing for her will only leave you hurt. If college soccer is all about speaking up and talking to the coach then how come when I come in fit and in shape, why is she playing or starting people who either haven’t done their fitness tests or didn’t pass any. We addressed this to her and she told us it’s NONE of our business in our team meeting. I know my worth and it hurts when she isn’t honest with why you aren’t playing or what you can do better. This destroys everyone’s confidence so when and if you do get a chance to play you can’t play to your 100%. Something isn’t working on the field either but yet she makes no changes in the line up. You can play one game, she’ll tell you how well you did, and not play at all the next game. It’s all mind games and it eventually will come to a point where you will loss the love for the game and want to quit or transfer. TWO seniors already left this year, one being a captain, and a junior. Our GA got fired from Molly last year since she told kolb she was being overworked. If you ask them why they will tell you EXACTLY how poorly Molly treated them. They did stand up for themselves and tried to talk to her previously before “going to their parents”. These parents commenting are looking out for their children since they hear them crying on the phone with them after every game. Parents have a right to feel a certain way, especially since they see the game differently on the other side of the sidelines than us players do. Molly I hope you either quit or get fired for the best interest of all the girls and the team. Kolb look at the stats, she isn’t playing to win since she’s been coach. 10 GIRLS have either quit or transferred since she’s been coach all thanks to her. She is a PEOPLE PLEASER (she says this) which is not good or needed in collegiate soccer. She is destroying everyone mentally and I can assure you MORE GIRLS ARE GOING TO QUIT AFTER THIS SEASON."
"When my daughter has had any issues or questions she approached coach directly and did not ask her parents to get involved. Coach is not perfect, but success comes when everyone takes accountability for their actions, and that includes the players. Coming in out of shape, not passing fitness tests and expecting play time/equal play time is not going to cut it in college soccer.
There is a right and a wrong way to deliver feedback and this forum is not it. "
"Unfortunately, the comments/feedback I've read is accurate -- it speaks to the culture within the Hood Woman's soccer team. Although each athlete does have a responsibility to help build this culture (individual accountability), the direction and guidance must come from "the top" (coach and AD). We live in a day and age of a "speak up culture", where individuals (players in this case) must feel SAFE sharing their ideas and concerns (privately or publicly) without worrying about repercussions. Therein lies the problem with this program (which again starts with the coach). Feedback is a gift - whether anyone chooses to listen or not is another matter. I don't believe you'd see so much negativity (posted anonymously on this site) if the people writing it felt as though concerns were welcomed and there weren't repercussions for speaking up. Many parallels with life and team sports -- all of these players will be out in the workforce long after their soccer careers are over -- I sincerely hope playing in a program with this culture doesn't extinguish their WANT to speak up when it may make a difference in a situation where the stakes are much higher.
If there is ANY good news here it's that things can change and get better, but it starts at the top with leaders being willing to listen and make changes. "
"Coach Molly has the best interests of the players at heart; she genuinely cares about them as people off the field above anything else. In her short time at Hood, the team has made playoffs and made school history. While coach may not be perfect, none of us are, and we will never improve without being supportive in the good and the bad games/seasons. "
"Coach Molly has ruined multiple players love for the game. She is incompetent and picks favorites. She refuses to listen to any players that stand up for themselves or others, and only listens to her favorites (i.e. Captains, or girls that live in her office to suck up.) She is engaged to the team’s athletic trainer, making it impossible for players to go to her when they are mistreated by him. She makes no positive changes to the lineup, and starts players that very clearly don’t try or have any positive impact to the game. Molly is a pushover and is non confrontational, so any issues that arise must be solved by players on their own, or the issues just continue to grow. She does the same things in every practice, which clearly doesn’t help the players at all. She preaches mental health for the athletes, but tears them down on her own. She punishes those that stand up for themselves, and shuts down any conversations that revolve around what SHE should be doing better. Molly doesn’t believe in player privacy, and openly tells the team certain players private information they tell her in confidence. Coach Molly should have never been hired at Hood College, as she was not voted by any current member on the team during the hiring process. She is an idiot, a coward, and most of all: unfair. She should quit or be fired, as her presence at Hood is no longer wanted by any member of the team. Majority of the girls frequently discuss quitting or have already quit or transferred. Coach Molly ruins players’ confidence and I hope no team has to deal with the repercussions of having her as their coach. The year the team went to playoffs was built from the players and their connections. Coach Molly ruined these connections, the girls’ confidence and passion, and plays the worst formation and a handful of players that should have never been recruited. Coach Molly brings in the smallest classes, and the worst players, and is ruining this program with nobody being able to speak up about her misconduct."
"This coach is aloof, vindictive, and does not allow players to approach her about concerns or else they will be benched or kicked off the team. She holds personal grudges and does not care about winning…only about having “power”. "
"When you do the same thing over and over and it continues to fail- most people would stir things up, try something different, not Molly. Instead she just keeps adding staff to the sidelines to sit beside her and wonder why its not working. The same people in the same positions failing to score, all the while allowing the other team to continue to just sweep them. Games are so predictable now its pretty much a waste of time and effort. At this point, perhaps you should consider playing the girls you've kept out all season- what can it really hurt? Worst case you keep your losing record, best case you actually win a game. If your thinking of joining this team, don't believe a word you are told by the coaching staff. They will tell you one thing and actually do another. Regardless of the amount of time and effort you put in."
"Taking time telling you how bad of a coach Molly is would waste 10 minutes of my life that I will never get back so here is my opinion of her as a coach
TERRIBLE"
"Hey Molly, when several players who’s life long love of soccer is ripped from them by you to the point they transfer or quit playing, you might want to look in the mirror and ask yourself what you’re doing wrong. But you refuse because you think the way you coach is correct. You seldom win any games but you still do the same thing every single game. Same girls in same positions in the same formations. I would venture to say there might be 3 girls on the current team that even like or respect you. That’s sad! If we’re judging you on wins and loses you’re terrible and if we’re judging you on your coaching ability, you’re even worse. Hey athletic director, find somebody else to coach the women’s soccer team. ANYBODY ELSE!!"
"I appreciated that Molly tried to get the girls to develop as a team off the field, finding opportunities for them to gather without the coaches. She encouraged and set an example of service by leading the girls to the Frederick Rescue Mission and other activities. Her desire for them to travel together is a good idea. I did not feel she developed the girls as well on the field. She also tended to favor those whom she recruited and left those recruited by the outgoing coach to advocate for themselves for playing time, when in fact, they should have been given opportunities without having to justify their position on the team first."
"Worst coach my daughter has ever played for. Just look at her win/loss record. She recruited my daughter at a certain position and never plays her at that position. Actually she doesn’t play much at all. There’s girls on the field that should not play college soccer. If you lose game after game and go scoreless in these games you should change things up, but game after game it’s the same thing. There are girls on the team that when they are on the field the team is successful yet Molly seldom plays these girls, and when she does play them they’re in positions that do not make the team successful. Anyone who may read this please please please think twice about going to Hood to play womens soccer. Molly will lie to you to get you on campus"
"Have never seen a coach this bad before. Sneaky, Manipulative, lying. How do you even get hired for a position with a GRASSROOTS license. I’m not sure you can even teach 5 year olds, let alone 18-22 year old adults. DOES NOT play to win. too occupied on how people feel and what they think of her. The fact YOU have made 6 players either quit/ transfer should say something. "
"Do not let your children play for her. She will ruin their entire soccer career and make them lose all their confidence and love for the game. That’s why there are so many girls who have either transferred or quit. "
"I find here to be demeaning to the players, makes promises she does not keep. Has no idea how to coach when it comes to game time. Doesn’t make changes when team is under preforming.
I wouldn’t recommend any player thinking of coming to Hood to go there as long as she is head coach."
"Inexperienced coach who does not have an explanation behind her coaching. If you ask her why she is doing something there is no clear answer and she goes onto a tangent. She tells you what you want to hear instead of being straightforward. She does not have a good coaching style and does not listen to assistant coaches opinions. She worries too much about players liking her over actually coaching and she even says she is a people pleaser."
"Slightly above average training coach but brings really good intensity and energy to practice. Very good game day coach and will help you win games in that moment. Has good knowledge of the game. Wish we had more video analysis to see our mistakes."
"Isn't willing to listen to feedback from players or make changes on the field. Decision making on and off the field shows lack of soccer aptitude to coach at this level."
"Emily Barber will take this program to do great things. She has a lot of experience in the game of lacrosse, and has what it takes to level up the program while still being a great mentor and leader to 20+ young women. I truly cherish my time spent with her on Hood College Women’s Lacrosse! "
"The soccer field and locker rooms were really nice. For a DIII school facilities like these are a big pull. Would definitely recommend going on a visit if you can and take a look for yourself."
"Coach definitely is not a stereotypical coach. His approach towards us is very calm compared to the average intense coach. He has great knowledge of soccer and can apply that when coaching. "
"Honestly he knows a lot about the game of baseball but isn't a great coach. Flat out he is a lier. During the recuirting process he claimed how great everything was but it was far from that. He judges you based on your fitness not baseball skills. His practices are SUPER long and boring. All in all DO NOT PLAY FOR HIM!"
"I am an incoming freshman mens soccer recruit at Penn State Brandywine in 2017. I am excited to play for Jesse this season. When I went to campus for my official visit I could feel the winning vibes of a great program that will compete for championships. That, along with getting a Penn State degree sold me right away!"
"Sharp and knowledgeable of the game. Puts us in position to win. Was impressed with details in his scouting reports on opponents. Great overall person too. You can talk to him about anything! Not just soccer. Really cares about the well- being of the team. "
"I am a recruit, a coach from another college told me to check this website before making my decision and I’m glad he did . My review is based on reading the other reviews and watching a game .."
"Worst coach ever , mentally abusive to the girls constantly puts them down, blames the girls for losing the games when she should be looking in the mirror at her self. Never changes the players on the field even if it is 100° outside . It’s always the same. They should be called the bad news Blazers thanks to Miss Molly. My daughter has always liked her coaches, but it seems no one can stand this one including the parents. It’s very sad because this should be the best time of their lives and she ruins it I pray nothing ever happens to one of the girls, because of her mentally abusing them, I will be telling my daughter to not play soccer next season if she is still the coach or switch colleges and play for someone else . They are supposed to go to Italy in March but I don’t think I feel comfortable with my child going with her . Hood needs to do something about this situation . I am so happy it’s over "
"She has no idea of how to coach or treat her players . Her team doesn’t respect her cause she shows them none . She will try to bully the young ladies and the parents and resort to hold playing time over their head if they ask her any questions about the game . She destroys her players confidence and she knows it but just doesn’t care . They lose just about every game every season so you would think that she would make some changes but she doesn’t. They way she treats her team is a sin and they need to fire her"
