"Maybe he would be a functional counselor for students who play sports. I would imagine that would be a heavy focus for him to make sure he is attentive to his athletic students.
I tried him as a counselor, because that was the only counselor they had in the office at the time. The first meeting I had with him was pleasant. He seemed brand new at his job, and it seem like he was getting the reins of everything. Unfortunately, he ended up putting me in multiple classes that it match, my educational goal, nor was suitable for my academic necessities. I had to go to other counselors to let me know that he actually let me down the wrong path and I was able to later on get guided down the right path with other counselors.
The second time I met up with him …( lack of counselors in the office ) …was at a different Peralta school, and this time he wasn’t very pleasant, he actually was very rude, and very ill motivating. I was told by other students that his main focus would be towards the athletic students and that I wouldn’t get the attention or support that I needed.
I’m giving him a two star because he introduced to me to the emoji program for African-American students that would have individual support for my specific needs and in my specific life situation. I appreciated him for that, but then again, I recognize I could have gotten this information from a different counselor who would’ve been more supportive and attentive. But I take what I can.
He was one of the first counselors I ever had. This experience with this counselor has taught me that a student should support oneself and trust in the choices that you want to make for your educational goals. Having this experience with him as my counselor at the time has taught me that sometimes your counselors don’t always know what’s best and there is a such thing as a counselor steering you down the wrong direction.
I hope he has learned from his years of being a counselor and that he is now an amazing counselor. Good luck to him. This note is for any future students who want to connect with counselors in the most productive way. Certain counselors that may be geared towards a certain student community may not be supportive to the masses."
