"Jake cares about Jake, he will say an do anything to promote himself and the program. Then when you join you'll see a completely different person and program. Nothing about his "innovative" style of coaching is new or up to current swim standards. Old school mentality of grind it as hard as you can with same repetitive things.
During recruiting he'll give you all kinds of attention, long talks, and glorious stories of the program and culture. But then as soon as you're in season the self importance of Jake begins. He has zero idea how to deal with girls and give motivation. There is no positive energy and everything is based on fear and a negative occurring. He will find his one or two favorites on the team that are the fastest and those are the only swimmers that get the attention or any positive feedback.
Now even before the House vs. NCAA settlement has been approved with roster limits he's taking the Liberty Team Culture and throwing it out the window for his own ego. In some delusion he believes he will get transfers from other Major D1 schools to Liberty. Just look at his bio on the Liberty swimming page, it's nothing but a diatribe of how great he thinks he is and ego boost.
Beware of the bait and switch. He'll talk a good game, but once you're in the program you'll realize you've been sold a lemon."
"Coach Johnson by far was the worst coach I've ever had. He was a very poor communicator and very non motivational. He never allowed his assisant coaches to coach. This coach should be no where near a volleyball court. I feel bad for any girl that has to play for him. "
"Trevor has been great. He meets with everyone of his players bi-weekly and truly cares about each of us. We are so grateful to have him on our staff!"
"I can’t believe the things that some of these parents have the nerve to say about coach Johnson. My daughter had a great experience playing for Trevor. He was the best coach for her. I’m sorry their daughters didn’t work hard and didn’t play. This is not acceptable. What a pathetic excuse for a parent to rant on Him. "
"Reading these comments makes me realize that there are people out there that have it out for coach Johnson. Maybe their daughters are telling mom and dad all the “bad things” they think that are going on. When in reality things are going good and that He is being honest with their daughters. Maybe these parents don’t want to hear the truth. I’m glad to see that he’s still coaching and that these parents didn’t get to him. Give him a break. "
"So sad that this was the worst experience with Volleyball of all club and school coaches. Coach Johnson calls a timeout and does not even know which rotation the players are in. Does not help players improve. Lies about scholarships. Only plays transfer players.
Shame on Liberty for keeping him so long! "
"Literally the worst coach to ever exist. Do not hire this man or your program will go down in flames. Says what you want to hear but will never actually meet any expectations unless your expectations are on the floor. Cares more about what he has on his feet than the people he recruited. Questions your faith in the Lord if you lose a game. Also says to get on a diet if you lose a game. Uses programs money for apparel for self instead of what the program needs to be spending money on. Has kicked girls off of the team for absolutely no reason at all and does not give an explanation for his terrible behavior. Completely dismisses your value and self worth as a person. Good luck trying to have a normal conversation with this man. Has the maturity of a twelve year old boy. PLEASE talk to anyone who has transferred or quit the team and you will hear the same things."
"Coach Johnson was fired although they said he resigned. He basically ran a ponzi scheme with scholarships. Do your research and reach out to former players if you want the truth. I pray he never becomes a college coach again. "
"Coach Johnson lacks clear communication skills, leaving players confused and unsure of their roles and responsibilities. He fails to provide constructive feedback, instead relying on criticism and blame. He displays favoritism, giving unfair advantages to certain players while ignoring others. Coach Johnson creates a negative team culture, fostering an environment of fear, intimidation, and low morale. Coach has poor organizational skills and mismanagement which leads him to over promise scholarships to other girls. If you're a high school player or transfer stay as far away from him as you can. "
"Wish I knew about this site when I played for him. Recruits, stay away! Very dishonest. Goes back on his word. We used to bring our phone in meetings to record him. Ask former players who transferred for the scoop. "
"He is a terrible communicator on and off of the court. Will put people in and take people out without even telling the players. Promises WAY too many things and does not keep his word. Often says inappropriate things and should not be trusted as a coach. "
"Terrible coach. Does not know the game. Makes promises to get great athletes and then treats them terribly. Lies constantly to the athletes. Brings transfers in from other colleges and then plays them over current athletes that have earned their playing spot. "
"I am honored to have played for this woman! She’s is everything I wanted as a coach. She cares about you as a person and your walk with The Lord. She doesn’t push religion on you and will have conversations with you about anything! She is truly an amazing person. "
"Jake is a robot, who is programmed to impose his beliefs on you and nothing else. He has a complete lack of regard for the mental and physical well-being of his athletes. All he is concerned with is winning and promoting himself further in the swimming world."
"Little bit old. Represents God well at Liberty, which is a Christian University. Has really funny jokes, very straight forward about everything. Calls for leadership on a team, and expects everyone to achieve the best they can be. "
"Coach Findley is the best coach I ever had. He is not just your coach in soccer, his coaching style shapes you as a person and benefits you in your whole life."
