"I was one of Nickie Sanlin’s player and I would not recommend going to this school. Not only was she not a good coach for the women’s but she also struggles with the men’s side. For women’s she didn’t care and she picked her favorites. She would do the same drills everyday and I did not feel an improvement. Not only that but she said she would never leave the program then proceeds to tell us she is quitting over a zoom call. Then she makes us interview coaches and waited to long to choose one so she gave us the coach no one wanted to replace her. From that point she has allowed that coach and the women’s program to go south with only eight girls left on the roster due to quitting. On the men’s side she cannot control her emotions. She often puts her personal life into her coaching life. She once screamed at one of her players and even followed him when he tried to get away from her. The men’s team has completely fell apart because she destroys everything she touches. I would not want anyone else to have to endure what I did. My suggestion is to go somewhere that treats you like a human. Good luck with everything. "
"Extreme favoritism . Very blatantly and borderline inappropriate
Very immature and passive aggressive
Condescending and easily temperamental
Has a lot of good knowledge and passion but only cares about a select few that she feels connected with "
"One of the nicest coaches I've ever had. She truly cares about you and you can talk to her about anything. She makes sure you are getting things done in the classroom. Academics before softball. "
"He recruited me to be a gpa booster for the team so he would look better to his boss. I wasn’t considered good enough to get any actual coaching so I never improved during my time there. Definitely had favourites so everyone else was completely ignored. Seems to have little man syndrome and a potential drinking problem judging by his erratic behaviour and compulsion to always be chewing gum. Created a culture of fear and uncomfortableness. Anything success the as player has he takes credit for (notice how he’s always in the middle of every photo holding the trophy when he in fact did nothing). Man’s trying his best but I would never send my child to him. "
" Coach communication skills are inconsistent, erratic and confusing. I have to agree with a previous statement of “culture changes each day based on his mood which results in everyone being on edge and walking on eggshells.” He will share team drama with his favorites and seek their opinion of how to deal with it. Definitely do not stand up for yourself, to him or the athletic department, you will lose and no body will listen. Several Team members have tried and are no longer playing for this team. Don’t expect to practice on a consistent basis. Don’t expect to win. Don’t expect to qualify for tournaments. Coach will take who he wants to take, even if your average is better. He’s great at recruiting and would be a great used car salesman but awful at running a division 2 collegiate golf. BTW, he “coaches” both the women’s and men’s teams that's his excuse for being so busy. Overall MCK is a great school!! However, if you are a competitive golfer, looking for a true collegiate career, you would be better off going somewhere else. "
"Took a job at a university and lasted three months. Did not tell the players herself that she was quitting and just never showed up again in November. Only cared about the players who could already hit and had a high softball IQ. Uncommitted. Unfocused. "
"The most disorganized and unprofessional coach I have ever played for. She plays some players that are good and others by favoritism and how much money they have. According to a current player, 8 girls quit during the 2022 season - found to be true. When a player has concerns, she basically brushed them off and when they consider quitting she puts on a new face to protect her image by being overly nice and providing cookie cutter responses. Do not recommend whatsoever. If she offers you anything, make sure you get in writing what you want for your season. "
"Incredibly unprofessional to players and very manipulative. Not respectful during practices nor game appearances, only cares about her image. Lies during recruitment visits and laughs while watching her athletes struggle. Plays by favoritism and monetary value, not skill. Disappointing and do not recommend. Team is also very toxic, drama usually caused by the coaches or new recruits. I had to lie to recruits in order to help Colleen to get members on the team. In this past season, 8 female athletes quit and dropped from the roster due to bad atmosphere. "
"Despite caring enough to get very emotional frequently, his communication skills are inconsistent and erratic. The team culture changes each day based on his mood which results in everyone being on edge and walking on eggshells. If you’re one of his favourites, you get away with everything and he’ll even share team drama with you and ask your opinion of how to deal with it. Wouldn’t recommend standing up for yourself, just accept you won’t win. If you’re not good enough to travel don’t expect to get any attention or help from him, he’s too busy for that. He’s great at recruiting, awful at running a team but a decent enough coach. "
"Will build you up to tear you down. Doesn’t care about much other than what she wants to happen. Even said that “coaches make decisions and they have to live with them.” After asked about getting a singular chance to play the position they were recruited for. You will develop as a hitter, other than that she doesn’t really teach a lot of fielding skills and plays. If you are not one of her favorites you are likely to know it, by the way you are treated and how much you play. I lost a friend back at home to a mental health crisis and was very upset about it and other things regarding school, nobody reached out to ask me if I was okay although the team knew. Instead I was left to deal with that mental toll on my own. While still supporting mental health awareness and providing bows to show support, felt like a smack in the face. Many women have left the team due to her coaching and lack of humanitarian skills. Her wife is also the assistant coach (sweet lady) and she treats her very rudely when coaching and it’s seen from the sidelines. Also yelled at a weights coach in his office to get her away. "
"Jimmy created Mckendree swimming and diving. We went went from 25th place at nationals our first year of having a team, to being ranked 1st at nationals (which was cut off midway by covid) in only four years. "
