"Continual Emotional and Mental Abuse -
Creates a terrible culture with lack of standards, lack of support, emotional immature system. Only trains small portion of athletes. Spends more time demeaning athletes then developing them. Delusional attempts to reinvent her losing system over and over again by increasing abusive behavior instead of increasing her knowledge of game management, practice management. She is unfair, dishonest, tells athletes that academic are less import. She uses humiliating tactics instead of good communication or training. She has no compassion, invades individuals personal space in poor attempt to "connect", mocks athletes who are working to learn skills. "
"Brought the program back at Nova, she gave me the opportunity to be a NCAA athlete in a new sport. Was patient with all of as we learned and taught us to be better teammates. Grateful for everything she taught me and love Kim Kiwi, always felt like she cared about me. Without all the things she did this past year, nsu would never have been able to have a team. Sad she left but thankful her and Emily were my coaches. "

"puts on a "cool tough coach" act, but she's really just a jack a*s. terrible leader, did not improve my skillset while working with her. says obnoxious s**t because she's in a position of authority. undermines other staff and makes it really awk for the athletes. its a shame people keep hiring her, she's not a fit for coaching. "
"good person and coach. got along with well, cared about me outside of practice. enjoyed her sense of humor. workouts were challenging. team culture we joined as freshmen was rough, prolly from covid and coaching change. could tell she tried to make it better, took a lot of time. "
"There is an overall good team culture but coaches do not care about anyone unless they are at the top scoring points. They recruit a big group to give you an opportunity and if you struggle at all they stop mentoring you. The coaches are awkward and do not give actionable feedback (ex. Telling me the reason I got sick was because I did not work hard enough). Coach Breznau specifically was poor with communication. I was in therapy and on medication during my time on the team to deal with her borderline emotional abuse and manipulation. However, she does a decent job fighting eating disorder culture and does not promote hyper competition between teammates. Just wanted to share since she keeps winning Big 10 Coach of the Year. She ruined my love of the sport, so I cannot recommend her. "
"Runs while he watches his players assault other team player 10 on 1. Shows no courage, leadership skills, and deserves no respect from players, coaches, fans, administration. "
"I was not impressed by the locker-room, it could use an update. Otherwise, the fields and complexes are fairly nice. Everything is just pretty old and out of date. I liked that everything was within walking distance and that most of the facilities are in one place."
"Racist. Discriminatory. Only favors men and fastest girls. Does not care about mental health or well being. He coaches club teams and other coaches dont like him. "
"Helen is a fantastic person and her love for her players is evident to all she interacts with. She has a passion for the sport and and focuses on taking the game to the next level. "
"Has so much passion behind her coaching style. Can tend to be unorganized, but will develop a life long bond with her athletes. Provides a team environment that feels like a second home. "
"Outstanding job changing this program around even though some of the seniors didn't like what he was doing at first he really chanhed our minds and is a great coach"
"He takes the time to meet one on one with players. He makes sure they're comfortable in their surroundings and will not ask anything of a player if it violates his or their belief and value system. "
"Worst coach ever! She is a BULLY coach. She has favorites and god help you if she doesn't like you. She has no business coaching. I can't say enough about how horrible she was to have as a coach. Sorry can't find one good thing to say about this horrible woman but if your thinking of having her as a coach don't do it! You have been warned.
"
"The worst coach I have ever been around. She picks favorites, and if you aren't one of them. WATCH OUT! She will not coach you, won't talk to you, will take zero interest in you. Her personality is abrasive and she know's "
"He is a smart man, but not relatable at all. His door is physically always open, but if you're not in his top 8, he really doesn't seem to care at all. I was never able to have a personal relationship with him. Injured athletes are completely isolated from the team, they're not even allowed to practice with the team. "
"He is a tough coach and can push people past limits, but he doesn't care about the person there is no relationship. He has expressed focus on the girls that are already good and to forget about the ones who haven't peaked yet. For most girls he is hard to talk to because he can manipulate a situation or pretend that there isn't a problem."
"Matt is a very technical coach who emphasizes the process over the outcome. His office door is always open for us to stop in and ask questions or just to chat. Overall I've had a very positive experience with Michigan State rowing!"
"Is there less than zero for "caring" or "motivational"?? Helen is SELFISH. Ignores the impact a mass shooting would have on a group. She's the leader of a group and says that it doesn't matter how anyone else feels - only her opinion - which is always in delivered in anger. Her assistant coaches even try to point out unfairness and double standards. "
"She was my coach through a coaching change, covid, the death of a teammate, and a shooting on campus. She was understanding and compassionate in all those situations towards our team and staff, to an extreme. I think people sometimes took advantage of her being a nice person then lost their s**t when she set a boundary. I grew tremendously as an athlete and person because of her, I have nothing but the utmost respect and gratitude for working with her. I felt like she cared about the team and was knowledgeable but never really had the opportunity to coach a normal team due to constant tragedy and crisis management. The biggest issue I had with her was she hired staff who continuously undermined her, created a lot of division that was unnecessary. She should’ve fired most of the staff on numerous occasions - Austin, Kaitlin, Ronnie, Veronika, Farrah, Egan, Maddie - were HORRIBLE staff members. Outright bad at their jobs, seemed like she was constantly doing everyone’s work. It seemed like certain staff members were constantly working against her and trying to get the team to join them. She also kept people on the roster that didn’t belong, you can’t do the workouts but keep complaining? Just stop. The haters are those she was too kind to, they would’ve never been happy and they aren’t happy now either. They just wanted the attention they got from complaining. To say she didn’t care about you or respect you is a lie, there were no investigations or incidents, you’re being petty and posting lies. She deserved better than how many people treated her. "
"Matt’s coaching goes beyond what we do on the erg and on the water. He values communication, nutrition, sleep, academics, personal life, etc. Many coaches I’ve had in the past didn’t preach or even acknowledge the importance of taking care of these things like he does. There are a lot of stressors in the life of a college athlete, and he knows how to read us. Matt is not only an incredible coach, but also, a mentor. "
