"Alison is my favorite staff member. She is the best at fitting us all in. She is always working and really never takes a day off. Basically runs the athletic offices. "
"Very experienced staff and leads the team with previous National Championship under his belt. He has surrounded himself with very experience coaches with hitting and fielding experts."
"Yikes. He’s a pig. Always has been. I hope the countless stories I’ve heard of involving him being foul to women (and girls) will come to light. Just a trash human!! Been telling people this for years. "
"Coach Meyers is the best thing that has happened for MTSU baseball in a long time. He has completely changed the culture of the program from the trainwreck it was now to a respectable ball club. He wants the best for you, whether you make it at MTSU or transfer somewhere else. He is honest, but that is all you can ask for. He knows the game inside out and expects more out of you than you know you're capable of. Not a bad thing to say about the guy. If anything, he sometimes gets long winded in getting his point across but I'd go to war for the guy any day. "
"With exception of power 5 schools, MTSU offers a really good baseball, football and basketball facilities. Coaches are experienced and campus is nice. Athletic weight room is a bit dated but we were told a new building was going up to expand these facilities."
"Besides the 2018 season when the team won the CUSA championship, the program has continued to remain stagnant. Same coaching tactics has been used & they don’t always work with every team that comes through the program year after year. He’s had the tendency to allow outside influences to impact players’ playing time. He allows a parent/booster to come onto the field after every HOME game to have a nice, long conversation with him. He’s also allowed this same parent/booster to eat at the same restaurants with the team & the parent/booster would eat with the coaches while they’re all sitting at the same table (this took place at 1 place that we traveled to during the 2022 year (senior season)). The relationship between Breeden & the parent/booster has provided leverage to the parent/booster in terms of starting in the lineup even when that player is not producing offensively. This coach has had the tendency to remain complacent with the same 9-10 players that he always starts in the lineup but will not make timely changes when necessary to put the team in the best position to win. His coaching decisions are for the benefit of himself & his coaching position not for the benefit of the team. He has resorted to name calling his players as a unit when the team is not performing to his expectations; the words “dyslexic” & “re***d” were few of the words used. He will only coach certain players that he believes will bring success to the program; he’s given up on me & other players while turning his focus on other players that he deemed desirable to success. This reflected on my senior day when he pulled me after I struck out swinging at my 1st & ONLY CAREER at-bat. Turned out he & the other coaches had discussed pulling me before the game even started & it was on my senior day. As long as Breeden & Foti are coaching at that university, that culture & program will forever be toxic. The only compliment that I will give this man is he does hold everyone accountable in terms of their academic performance; I have no problem with whatsoever."
"He has failed to follow through with the things he’s told players he would do; double standard always took place with him. He’s made comments about holding every pitcher to the same standard but fails to follow through with it. He’s told pitchers that they would be held to a “shorter leash” when it came to their mistakes in the circle, but some players would receive kore leniency than others & it was the pitchers that would suck up to him.
When I went to talk to Breeden about my playing my 5th year, Foti looked me dead in the eye & said that they were not going to bring anyone back for their 5th year. Both coaches did bring a player back for her 5th year & I found out when I saw the roster that was already posted on the athletics website. The 5th year senior they brought back was from my class. This man cannot tell the truth directly to their face.
Him & Breeden (HC) are the reason that the culture in the program is toxic. As long as they still coach at the university, the culture within the program will forever be toxic. "
"I have heard very disheartening things about him as a coach, such as he will say one thing to a player and then mean the complete opposite in retrospect. Knowledgeable about the foundations of the game but honestly cannot execute with the players. After watching him coach his team numerous times at numerous different games this year, the team culture seems low due to his mannerisms and attitude if they are playing poorly; they honestly seemed scared of him. Definitely would not want to send a recruit his way with all of that going on. "
"He seemed like a great guy at first but ended up lying to my daughter in so many different aspects throughout recruiting. Really dodged a bullet here. We watched him coach his team at ODU and he screamed at the girls and they looked terrified of him. Shouldn’t have to coach by fear- if the girls respect you then you shouldn’t have to instill fear within them. When the girls made any type of mistakes, they seemed to look to him as if they were afraid of the postgame consequences. Already been suspended once by the NCAA, not sure I would want my daughter there. "
"Knows a lot about defensive schemes and is experienced. Something seems to be lacking in close games and situations. Presents himself as a far different person to the media than within the team. Does not offer equal opportunity to scholarship and non-scholarship players, regardless of skill level."
"Well, he's definitely a great defensive mind. However, I don't think he is that great of a head coach. Many of his interpersonal interactions come off as fake. In addition, he's not shy about letting you know who his favorites are."
"Derek Mason is a great coach overall. Only critique I would give is for him to let his veteran players have more input into how things should go from a football perspective."
"Great defensive mind at times but is indecisive on what and who he wants. Isn't a great judge of talent. Has trouble at times translating what he wants from the class to the grass."
"Coach Mason comes off very honest, but has failed to be transparent in multiple situations leading players on with scholarship and showing tremendous preference among his players. Other than that he is a terrific defensive mind and a great teacher of the game."
