"When I was coached by him, he was very passionate about the game. He played the game, knows the game, and he doesn’t play favorites. The players who are playing the best will be the ones on the field. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of all his players. He’s a players coach and knows the game very well. Basically, if I could, I would want to be coached by him again."
"I had a great experience with coach Matt! He made my transition from another college very smooth and easy! He’s going to be honest and direct with you whether that’s on or off the field. Coach Matt is one of the easiest people to get along with! Loves to talk about soccer and breaking down the game! He knows his players and motivates us day in and day out! Overall great coach!"
"Matt has always been there to support his players, yet still be honest with them in giving constructive criticism in ways for the player to get better. He will strategically play certain people depending on the opponent and won’t be drawn to the favorites, but the people he can depend on to do a specific job he knows they can do."
"Matt understands the game well and wants all of his players to succeed. He demands maximum effort all the time or you will start to fall out of favor. He can be easily frustrated and tougher to deal with if you don’t see eye to eye and lack effort. He runs very well organized training sessions. Players typically enjoy having a coach like this around. It is very easy to get feedback from him and he will tell you how it is good or bad. Motivating players is not his biggest strength, but I certainly was not unmotivated to play for him. He would do anything for his players that give him their all. "
"Great overall coach, understands what it’s like to be a player and is able to push his team towards a main goal. Loves the game and puts that passion into his coaching style. Very fun and adaptable as well. Always love when he creates the plan for practice"
"Matt was a great coach for me and had helped me develop myself into the player I am now. He was always energetic and happy and always motivated me and the other players to become the best we could be. Ny most memorable moment was when he went 1 on 1 with me and tripped and ate turf. He made our atmosphere a lot better than what it was without him."
"Denna is an incredible addition to Millikin University's women's volleyball program. She is loving, supportive, encouraging, funny, and tender to all players in the program "
"Coach Kiick can be viewed as intense with strict rules at times. She does this to create a stronger, more organized program. She is incredibly passionate and dedicated to the program & will make sure her players are on the same page as her. She is very caring & supports her players through thick and thin, but can prioritize winning over anything else. Some view that bad, others view it good. "
"Coach iggy is a great coach who is very knowledge in the field. He is a great coach that is personable and is someone the players feel comfortable around. "
"The baseball program has great facilities and has a amazing field and locker room. The field and locker room are both new and they are building a new indoor facility for baseball as well. "
"Coach Ian is a very caring and dedicated coach. He is passionate about the sport and his players. He’ll work you hard and will tell you to cut the crap when necessary. He cares about you and your well-being. "
"If you put effort in at practice, coach will put effort into you. He takes the time to get to know his team across all event groups. Sees the best in everyone"
"The coach respects players of the team. He wants the team to give the coaching staff feedback and lets individuals give their input.
He knows the game and does not give in to the classic “Kick and run boot ball” type of college soccer that many teams end up playing. I enjoy that we look to play a style that incorporates combination play and players getting forward. He doesn’t back down and he will stick to how he wants to play even if that means losing a few to grow and get better.
The program plays a strong non-conference schedule, because he wants the team to compete to be prepared for conference games. He doesn’t want to back down and looks to play games against the best all season long.
Coach is honest with players 100%. He will let you know your situation and where he sees you on the team at any time. Players are always welcome to meet with him and he will absolutely listen to what you have to say. He understands player’s situations and will work to help give players confidence to keep improving.
Education is important and he wants his players to achieve the best grades possible and be ready for their careers after college.
Does the coach have room to grow? Yes, and I believe he even acknowledges that and is open to changing how things are done to create a stronger program. "
