"David is not a friendly coach at all and plays favorites. He is always in Sammy's ear about what to do and who to prioritize. He is hurtful with his words, using the "r" slur to describe players (not always, but I did hear it), using words such as "idiot", and "stupid", and will cuss at players. He is a major hypocrite with his fitness rules, too. He makes you feel bad about health and mental health issues.
He is not knowledgeable of the game, and it makes you feel stupid if you do not understand his drills, which have nothing to do with the game.
Stay away! He and Dr. Hodges are very similar! He surely made me feel shameful for my health issues when I played at Notre Dame. It is HIS WAY or NO WAY!"

Coach Kastners leadership style appears to lack the necessary support and guidance expected within a team environment. There is a noticeable divide among team members, with favoritism being shown towards those who conform to certain behaviors. Additionally, communication from Coach Kastner is minimal, hindering the overall cohesion of the team.Furthermore, there seems to be a lack of proactive planning for practices, resulting in repetitive and unproductive sessions. This ultimately impacts the team's preparedness and development. Additionally, requesting a day off before a game raises concerns about commitment and prioritization.Attempts to address these issues with Coach Kastnerhave been met with defensiveness, indicating a reluctance to acknowledge and address concerns. As a result, it's evident that improvements are needed in both leadership and coaching methodologies to foster a more positive and effective team dynamic."
"Coach Sammy knows a lot about the sport of softball which is great as a coach. But being so young i feel she cares to much about friends which can ruin the dynamics of the team and can make players feel left out. "
"As a former player under the guidance of Coach Sammy Kastner, I can wholeheartedly attest to her incredible impact both within the realm of softball and beyond. Coach Sammy transcends the typical role of a coach, embodying the qualities of a mentor, motivator, and friend. On the softball field, Coach Sammy's expertise shines brightly. Her profound knowledge of the game coupled with her unwavering dedication to our team's success propelled us to achieve feats we never thought possible. With her strategic insights and meticulous attention to detail, she honed our skills and instilled in us a sense of discipline and resilience that continues to resonate with me today.
Off the field, Coach Sammy's influence extended far beyond softball. She fostered an environment of camaraderie and support, nurturing not only our athletic abilities but also our personal growth. Whether it was offering guidance through life's challenges or simply lending a listening ear, Coach Sammy exemplified compassion and empathy in every interaction.
What truly sets Coach Sammy apart is her unwavering belief in her players. She saw potential in each of us and pushed us to surpass our own expectations. Her encouragement fueled our confidence and inspired us to strive for greatness both on and off the field.
In summary, Coach Sammy Kastner is more than just a coach; she is a beacon of inspiration who leaves an indelible mark on the lives of her players. I am eternally grateful for the impact she has had on me and countless others, and I have no doubt that her influence will continue to resonate for years to come."
"As a former student-athlete at Notre Dame of Maryland, I feel compelled to share my experience with the university's athletic facilities, or lack thereof. While Notre Dame of Maryland prides itself on its academic excellence and inclusive community, its athletic facilities fall short of providing adequate support for athletes.
One of the most glaring shortcomings is the absence of a usable softball field or turf. As a softball player, I was disheartened to discover that the university lacked a dedicated field for practices and games. Instead, we were forced to make do with makeshift arrangements on nearby fields, which often posed safety hazards and hindered our ability to fully engage in our sport.
Moreover, the lack of proper facilities not only affected the quality of our training but also compromised our competitive edge. Without access to a well-maintained field or turf, we were at a significant disadvantage compared to teams from other universities with superior facilities.
Beyond the softball program, other athletic teams also faced similar challenges due to inadequate facilities. The absence of modern amenities, such as updated gymnasiums, training rooms, and locker rooms, further underscored the university's neglect of its athletic programs.
In addition to hindering athletic performance, the subpar facilities at Notre Dame of Maryland failed to foster a sense of pride and belonging among student-athletes. Without a proper infrastructure to support their endeavors, athletes struggled to feel valued and supported by the university community.
Overall, the lack of usable softball fields or turf at Notre Dame of Maryland reflects a broader issue of neglect towards its athletic programs. As an alumna, I hope to see the university prioritize investments in its athletic facilities to ensure that future generations of student-athletes have the resources they need to succeed both on and off the field. Ashley Hodges also caters to the men since going coed so if you are a female, your sports will be overlooked. "
"Ashley Hodges, the athletic director at NCAA D3 United East, exhibits behaviors that may hinder a positive and supportive environment for student-athletes. Despite her intention to demonstrate competence and concern, there are areas where her approach could be improved.
Some students have expressed feeling uneasy due to what they perceive as a lack of understanding, judgmental attitudes, and occasional rudeness from Ashley Hodges. Additionally, there have been concerns raised about her communication style, which may not always foster open dialogue or inclusivity.
It has been noted that she may show favoritism towards certain teams, which can impact the overall atmosphere within the athletic department. This favoritism has been observed particularly within the women's basketball and volleyball teams at Notre Dame of Maryland University.
As someone who has experienced Ashley Hodges' leadership firsthand, I personally found the environment uncomfortable and at times unsafe. As a student-athlete, my primary focus was on education and athletic development, not on navigating interactions with an authority figure who did not always prioritize understanding and respect.
For those seeking a professional and supportive athletic environment conducive to growth, it may be advisable to explore alternative options rather than Notre Dame of Maryland University under Ashley Hodges' leadership."
