"Unfortunately, my experience with Coach Ryan Sprague was less than satisfactory. I came into his program hoping to see improvements in my strength and conditioning, but I found myself feeling unsupported and frustrated.
One of the main issues was his lack of personalized attention. Despite signing up for coaching, I didn’t feel like my individual goals were prioritized. The workouts often felt too generic, and I struggled to see significant progress. There also seemed to be a lack of communication when it came to addressing my questions or concerns about the exercises or my form.
Another area of concern was his approach to motivation. While some coaches can inspire and push athletes to exceed their limits, I didn’t feel that Ryan provided the necessary encouragement or guidance to keep me on track. It often felt like I was just going through the motions, without any real sense of growth.
Ultimately, I didn’t feel that I received the value I expected from a professional strength and conditioning program. I would recommend potential clients to consider their options carefully and ensure that the coaching style aligns with their specific goals and needs."
"To be frank, think he just overthinks everything. Poor communication, lacks great decision-making skills, and, subjectively, think he is very selfish and biased in all he does. Holds everyone to perfect expectations, and if you don't meet them, best of luck to you!"
"Never would I think that this great University would be held to such low standards with this program led by this man. Does not care about the fans, just about himself. Selfish and biased, and OSU can do better with just about any other hire for such a notable mascot program. "
"Very knowledgeable, works hard, and you can tell he truly cares about his kids. Most people don’t understand what it takes to run a mascot program, but he does and executes very well."
"A legendary figure who cares more for the university and the character of "Brutus" than anyone can understand. He has developed the mascot program to a league of its own and developed the members of the team to be better citizens/students/leaders at the same time. The university has never been represented better. "
"Hard to see such a program be taken advantage of and ruined by such a selfish man. Horrible coaching and communication skills. OSU needs to fix this issue. It’s college kids, not a high school drama production as he treats it. Immaturity to top it off makes it tough to respect his actions as “coach.” "
"Kelly did not have the players well being on her list of priorities. There were many scenarios where she put players mental health to the side— including multiple individuals attempting suicide. It was brought to her attention to have a class/training on what to do if we are faced with a situation like this, whether it be you or a teammate. Her response was— “yeah you are probably right because I don’t know what the f— to do”. After 8-9ish years of being a head coach at Ohio State (and previous coaching positions) with numerous mental health cases, she still had not taken it upon herself to educate the team or her. "
"Ohio State is a great school with a lot to offer, but I wish someone had warned me about Lori before I committed to my dream school. The culture was toxic, based off of fear and intimidation that she wished to instill into all of her players- and even some of the staff. She belittled any players and staff that disagreed with her. She frequently made public, inappropriate comments about players’ bodies, sexual history, and family relationships. She would isolate players who she did not care for and, quite frankly, bully them to quit to free up scholarship funds for incoming athletes. When staff or other players would stick up for said players, they would also be treated poorly and receive her wrath. When players are out hurt, she treats them as if they aren’t even apart of the team until they are healthy again. Lori should not be able to be in a position of power over anyone, but especially young women who are extremely malleable and experiencing independence for the first time. I strongly encourage those who want a healthy college athlete experience to look elsewhere."
"Best coach! So supportive and wants the best for her players. She understands that there’s more to life than lacrosse and she helps prepare you for life outside of lacrosse as well as help you on the field. "
"Coach Karen was an outstanding coach who displayed great passion, enthusiasm and love for track and field. She wanted us to win as a team and therefore pushed everyone to be the best they could. She taught us to be fearless and to attack every situation with the mindset of defeating it before we started. Coach Karen taught us to be warriors. "
"The coolest thing about Andrew Teitelbaum is his fake therapy dog, Nyla. "Intense" doesn't even begin to describe how he lies to the NCAA about how many hours a week his team practices. Just ask him about their "optional" Monday workouts he organized this year. Whoever rated him a 5.0 clearly hasn't rowed in the past 6 years."
"Very clear about goals. He sets high standards for the team which results in tremendous success. Extremely knowledgeable about the sport. Excellent coach."
"Jarred is a first year coach for the program. He is amazing in every imaginable way. He truly cares about the team and makes every day enjoyable. The program has seen a drastic improvement in performance since he started. He is the best thing to happen to this program in a long time. "
"Coach Meyer was unlike any coach I've ever had. He's more of a motivational speaker getting his players to go as hard as their bodies will allow them to go - and it works. Many of the players do not like playing there though"
"Shiropov is a passionate coach who treats all of his athletes like his own children. He pushes everyone in the gym, in the classroom and in the their personally and personal lives. "
"Anne is a very strict, old-school type of coach. She plays favorites, is super unfair with playing time and doesn't get to know her players on a personal level. Anne is knowledgable when it comes to field hockey, but her coaching style is weak. She yells orders at the players and is not motivating or positive in the slightest."
"She is a good coach who understands the game and wants her players to succeed. At times, she does not understand the rigorous academic schedule when getting too caught up in season and important games."
"Unfortunately, the OSU field hockey program does not care about players if they are unable to come in as freshmen and start. Some of those freshmen are dropped when an international is recruited to play over them - even if the international has made it clear their intention is only to play for 1 year in the program. The team is enormous and lacks unity and leadership, as well as discipline for off-the-field incidents. In one off-season, 7 girls of the 27-person roster transferred or quit."
"Anne is the least understanding I have ever met. She is inconsiderate, she plays favorites with her starters and does not develop her other players. After two weeks of pre-season, Anne selects about 12-14 players who will play every minute of every game for the rest of the season and will not even look at the rest of the girls (there are typically around 25-27 girls on the roster per season). Anne does not get to know her players on a personal level."
"Anne's coaching style is completely irrelevant to how the game is played today. She is stuck in the 80's and has gone through 4 assistant coaches in 4 years because of it. Out of a team of 27 girls only 14 played throughout the season regularly and 10 did not step on the field one single time. She segregats practices and each drill into the A team (starters) and B team (everyone else) and only coaches those on the A team to get better."
"Coach Karen is very knowledgeable about sprints and has a strong determination to win. She is passionate about track and lets the team know it. However, she does play favorites and is hard to relate to it since she has a collective mindset and is not always the best at understanding individual differences."
"The prior review of this coach is consistent with our player’s experience. We would add that non-playing injuries are endemic on this team. What does it say about a team that has lost 7 players from one signing class, including starters, due to transfer and medical retirement? Lori has “standards” that are clearly selectively applied, and applied based on factors other than playing ability. The team culture is dysfunctional and abusive. It is shocking that, despite resources and talent, such an historic athletic program continues to tolerate such mediocre performance."
"I appreciate that coaches have a lot to manage, including keeping people moving towards the same goal coming from different places like our team did. I always felt like everything Andy had to say was towards the goal of us finding our own success. "
