"He’s self-absorbed and has tons going on - from swim practices to teaching classes. He puts pressure on people to meet his goals, regardless of whether it makes sense. If someone complains or becomes too exhausted it won’t be understood by this professor. He uses rudeness as a motivating tactic. Some respect and choices would be helpful. Some of his swimmers started to have serious mental health problems. "
"Coach Stoddard was too demanding. He wanted his students to do tons of work - which doesn’t always equal better outcomes. That just leads to exhaustion. I would rather understand the goals, and people can decide what works for their schedule within reason. We can’t all be national swimmers to meet Coach Stoddard’s ego."
"Very experienced coach who genuinely cares a lot about swimmers and their overall success. He definitely can have a tough love mentality but will really believe in you and push you to be better if you are willing to do the work."
