"If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, open and honest coach who is willing to do everything he can to help you get better, this man is not it. Not only were we subjected to constant verbal abuse from him, we also had refs come up to us after games to ask us why we put up with him. For example, when he doesn’t get a call, he throws his hat on the ground and jumps on it, as if he is a 3 year old throwing a tantrum. Continually, he will get on all fours and slap the ground because he is mad at how his players are playing. Overall insane and I don’t understand how he was able to coach so long without ever playing field hockey because he sure never picked up on anything over the years."
"The experience I had playing under this coach quite literally ruined the sport for me. I’ve never experienced a true rock bottom as much as I had when playing for her and her husband’s program. When people raised concerns over their harsh coaching style, intense hovering over every aspect of our lives including making us keep a food diary and a journal for them to read weekly, and their overall favoritism, the concerns were quickly swept under the rug because they had a “winning record”. In reality, the winning record came from fear of what would happen if we lost and genuine friendships on the team who we wanted to win for."
"Does not have the skills to foster a close and supportive team environment. Degrades player instead of positive motivation. Lacks leadership in developing positive team culture. Recruits too many players without sufficient support staff. When team issues arise he fails to provide leadership role to resolve issues. "
"Looking back, I’m really disappointed with the whole athletic department team and how they don’t take athletes concerns seriously or handle situations to protect an athlete even when clear evidence is out in front of them from other trusted non coaching staff. We are taking meetings where evidence was provided and clear emails. Emotional abuse is real in college sports! . Rider and Karin really need to upskill in protecting vulnerable student athletes and know how to better discipline coaches when needed. Lots of athletes leaving due to poor coaching, wrongful actions of coaches in how they communicate with their athlete and no ability for the student to truly be heard and supported. "
"He’s a different person once you are on campus. Over recruits snd over promises. Thinks he is a higher level cosch than he is in reality. Lacking true skills to progress Div 1 players. Promotes unhealthy gossip within the team. Do not recommend at all. Go elsewhere. "
"I can’t believe someone gave him 5 stars. Let’s just say this. This program is a scam. He has his favorites since the beginning and if you are not one of his favorites, not matter how good you are, you will NOT play. Also this team has no money so you will be getting crappy gear and shoes that are over 2 years old. He is a great man out of soccer and is caring, but as soon as he is in coach mode, you’re dirt. If you try to have a conversation with him, he will always disagree and manipulate you so you feel that you’re the problem. Also, he added two coaches that were his previous players. He’s a genius because those coaches are still viewing him as their coach and he can make every single decision. The assistants never show up because they have other jobs. Waste of spots. There is a reason why not a single senior wants to 5th year here… they all lost the love for the sport. "
"Rider's facilities are not up-to-date, making competitions there a hassle and not worth the drive. They should invest more in the track facilities as a whole"
"my experience was that he was an inviting coach but seemed not as confident in his role. Felt like he was trying to seem chill and not interested almost. A weird vibe and not the type of coach I was looking for"
"Rider University's campus is clean and well-kept but nothing special to it. The coach gives off a weird vibe that is not the most inviting. Felt like when interacting with his athletes, it was like trying to prove a point rather than coaching together. The team didn't seem to have as much fun together at practice"
"If you care about the sport and are willing to do what it takes to be successful, Coach Hamer will work with you. If you don’t care, he won’t want to help you "
"Drayson is a great coach who is always available to speak to his athletes! He cares deeply about creating a positive team culture and it shows in the tight knit team Rider Women’s soccer is."
"I had a great visit! I received a personal tour of campus from the head coach, watched a game, toured 2 of the players’ dorms, and got to attend a home-game barbecue! Overall the coach and players were really welcoming and kind! "
"Bob Hamer was the most manipulative and discouraging coaches I have ever had. When things don't go his way, his immediate reaction is to tear you down to make you easier to manipulate. I was told in a private meeting that "I was too dumb to transfer and no school would accept me". He was wrong."
